Fall Learning Update
PWCS will follow “normal” bus schedules/bell times this fall.
Preliminary Bell Schedule - Subject to change
This fall more than 96 percent of students will be attending in person and more are choosing in-person learning every day. PWCS is excited to have our students return to in-person learning. In order to ensure schools are able to transport our students on-time for learning everyday, students will return to “normal” bell schedules and will share seats on the bus.
Please be aware that masks may be required for students, pending further guidance from federal, state and local officials. Virginia guidance for K-12 schools health protocols for the 2021-22 school year is expected to follow guidance from the CDC, which is anticipated in the near future.

Students get excited for reading at Camp Read-A-Lot
Rising second grade students are honing their reading skills at Marumsco Hills Elementary School over the summer with fun activities and a nautical themed two-week long camp. The camp is operated in conjunction with Shenandoah University and designed to engage students in phonetics, word recognition, and writing exercises, while participating in traditional camp activities like reading stories around a “campfire,” dancing, creating arts and crafts, and singing. The teachers involved are PWCS teachers who are part of a cohort of graduate students working toward a reading specialist certification.
Thanks to the generosity of the Claude Moore Foundation, students can take a book home every day to keep and add to their personal library. The foundation also provides snacks for the students to have during camp.

Public Health Order in effect through July 25
The State Health Commissioner has issued a Public Health Order requiring masks to be worn by all individuals age 5 and older in indoor instructional settings in Virginia schools until July 25. The requirement is intended to be temporary in nature, and separate guidance is forthcoming for the 2021-22 school year.
The previously established exemptions to the mask mandate continue under the new order. The Public Health Order follows the expiration of Executive Order 79, requiring students age 5 and older to wear masks when indoors in K-12 instructional settings, which expired at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30, at the end of the declared state of emergency.
Additionally, please note that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) federal order requiring masks be worn on public transportation remains in effect and does apply to school buses.
