Cosmic construction — The Irene V. Hylton Planetarium is undergoing a renovation
The Irene V. Hylton Planetarium, located inside C.D. Hylton High School, is getting a full rebuild including a new dome, a new laser system, and even new carpets. New chairs will be installed as well. The planetarium's new projector system is perhaps the most impressive addition — the Konica Minolta 4K Sigma System is currently the second one of its kind available to view in the United States.
Although closed now, the Hylton Planetarium will offer the same services upon reopening that were available before the school closures, including real-time mapped star gazing, interactive lectures, animated science shows, and even laser shows.
Dr. Steve Walts, Superintendent of Schools, and other PWCS staff had a sneak-peek tour of the facility recently to get a taste of what the planetarium has to offer students.
