Order Up! Culinary Arts programs for high school students continue virtually
There's a lot cooking for the culinary arts students at Patriot and Potomac High Schools. Chef Emily Stevenson, the culinary arts instructor at Patriot High, and Chef Ronald Evans, the culinary arts instructor at Potomac High, have both successfully transferred their programs to a virtual setting. The results? A model for effective virtual hands-on learning and some great home cooking!

The return to school buildings is guided by local health metrics and much more
Reopening our school buildings is a complex process first and foremost guided by regional health metric data. The Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia Department of Health have developed Phase Guidance for school districts across the state. The guidance recommends school leaders consider gradually reopening K-12 schools, permitting in-person instruction to resume under certain public health conditions, while prioritizing the health and safety of students and staff.
In addition to the health metrics, PWCS must consider many other factors in developing the re-open plan. Our phased-in return takes into account the complexity of student transportation and student schedules, school building capacities with social distancing, availability of staffing, need for additional professional development, child care, the mental health of our students and teachers, as well as technology assets and limitations. The goal remains to progress all of our students to 50 percent in-person learning safely and efficiently.
As we phase-in our grade levels to in-person learning, please look for specific information including transportation schedules, daily schedules, lunch procedures and more to come directly from your child's school.
Keep student emergency contact information updated; complete your 2020-21 Emergency Card online
|
|
As more of our students return to school buildings, it is important that ALL students have a completed Emergency Card and updated health information on file. During an emergency, it is vital that the School Division has accurate emergency contact information. |
This year's process for providing emergency contacts and other important information is completely electronic. No paper! If you haven't yet done so, log into ParentVUE, click Online Registration at the top right, and select the Return to Learn packet. Completing this packet will help us ensure that we can keep your student safe.
