NOAA grant will fund student-led projects to raise community awareness about marine debris
Students from Freedom and Patriot High Schools will lead an important environmental project focused on single-use plastic water bottles, thanks to grant funding of $149,000 from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Marine Debris Program. The project will span two years, allowing students to study our local watersheds, collect data, and then educate the community on the effects of debris on our aquatic ecosystem. Read more

Body language and visual cues are substantial parts of the teacher-student learning interaction. To ensure that students are engaged and teachers are able to be responsive to the needs of their students, cameras are expected to be on during live, virtual instruction whenever it is possible or practicable. Registration open for Amazon Web Services Girls' Tech Day

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Girls’ Tech Day is going virtual this year! The event is free of charge and is designed to inspire and motivate girls and young women, ages 8-24, to develop and pursue their interests in technology.
Activities are designed so that students, teachers, and staff can go at their own pace, and join the event as many times as they like between November 14 – 28.
Registration is open. Parents, guardians, and teachers may register participants under the age of 18 by visiting the AWS Girls’ Tech Day registration page.

Important IT Reminders

Students and teachers using PWCS laptops are asked to reboot their computers at home when done using them for the day in order for important system updates to be applied. This should be done no later than Sunday, October 25 and only needs to be done once. |

Reminder: Each Sunday through November 8, 2020, Information Technology will be working on PWCS network upgrades. Division-wide internet access (including the guest network), VPN access, and intranet will be affected.
Cloud-based applications such as Outlook, Office 365, The Hub, and Canvas will be available outside of the PWCS network.

Dr. Shaunna Siler has joined the PWCS team as a simulation coordinator for the PWCS Practical Nursing Program. Siler is herself a graduate of the program that she credits with giving her everything she needed to be a great nurse.
