Principal's Message

Greetings Laurel Ridge Families,

What an unbelievable last week of the first quarter it has been here at Laurel Ridge. First, I want to send a massive roar of gratitude to our entire school community for making this year’s PTA Boosterthon Fundraiser an extraordinary success! Thanks to your enthusiasm, generosity, and tireless encouragement, we not only blew past our initial goal but also shattered our stretch goal. The PTA uses these funds to directly support and enhance our school community in a variety of ways, including free monthly family events, field trips, assemblies, and school improvement projects. Seeing our lions run with such joy and determination was a true highlight of the week!

As we wrap up the first quarter of the school year, it has been wonderful connecting with so many of you during our parent-teacher conferences. This strong partnership between home and school is vital for student growth, and your active involvement makes all the difference. Looking ahead to the second quarter, we want to maintain this momentum by emphasizing the importance of consistent school attendance. Every day of learning builds essential academic foundational skills and fosters critical social connection. When students are here on time and ready to learn, they build habits that serve them for a lifetime. To keep learning fun at home over the long weekend, try taking advantage of the crisp fall weather with a seasonal math walk! Have your child collect different types of fallen leaves, group them by shape or color, and practice graphing or estimating totals together.

Thank you again for your continued support of our students, staff, and school spirit. I hope you all enjoy a safe, restful, and well-deserved long weekend with your families!

Special Education Family Conference

Hear From Parents, Students, and Others at the Special Education Family Conference Opening Session

The annual Special Education Family Conference, Stronger Together: Connecting Families and Schools, will take place on Saturday, November 14, at Hayfield Secondary School.

New this year, the conference will open with an inspiring panel discussion featuring voices from across our school community: an FCPS student, a high school principal, a community partner, and an FCPS parent.

Panelists will share personal experiences and practical ideas for building supportive, inclusive communities where students can thrive both in and beyond the classroom.

Register to attend and visit the Special Education Family Conference webpage to learn more about the panelists. Email questions to SpecialEdFamilyConf@fcps.edu.

Immunization Events for FCPS Students

FCPS, in partnership with Inspire Health Alliance, will be providing school-required immunizations and optional flu shots for all FCPS students, ages 18 and under, with no out-of-pocket costs. Multiple events will take place at designated FCPS locations.

Additional dates will be made available throughout the school year. Parents or guardians may view upcoming events and schedule an appointment for their student. Participation is voluntary. Additional immunization resources are also available.

Superintendent Community Conversations

Join Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid for a Community Conversation. Students, families, staff, and community members are invited to ask questions, share concerns, and discuss what matters most to them. Everyone is welcome!

The final event will take place Tuesday, December 1, at 6:30 p.m., at Powell Elementary School. Click the date to register. Registration is not required, but it helps with planning.
