Cedar Connection

A Word from the Cedar Lane Staff

Good afternoon, Cedar Lane Family!

Today officially marks the end of our first quarter! A huge thank you to all of our students, staff, and families for their hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm over these first nine weeks.

As we look ahead to the start of the second quarter next week, it offers everyone a clean slate and a fresh opportunity to set goals:

  • Reflect & Reset: Take time with your student over the extended weekend to look back at successes and identify areas for growth.

  • Build Great Habits Early: Starting the new quarter with consistent daily attendance, organized routines, and device-free focus in the classroom will set the tone for continued success.

  • Stay Connected: We encourage families to continue monitoring SIS ParentVUE as first-quarter grades finalize and new coursework begins.

We are excited to share that the newest edition of our school newspaper, Cedar Chips, is out!

Our talented student writers, reporters, and editors have put together a fantastic issue covering stories, perspectives, and highlights from around our school. Be sure to scroll down to the Cedar Chips section below in today’s newsletter to read what our students have been writing about and to celebrate their creative voices!

With Halloween tomorrow, we want to wish all of our students and families a festive, spooky, and safe weekend of celebrations, trick-or-treating, and autumn fun.

  • Reminder: As shared last week, there is no school for students on Monday, November 2nd, and Tuesday, November 3rd (Staff Development Day & Election Day/Teacher Workday).

We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the building on Wednesday, November 4th, ready to kick off Quarter 2!

Have a safe and festive weekend!

Information about Eating Disorders

Eating disorders can have a serious effect on health and affect every aspect of the child’s life. They are not identified based on weight changes as much as behaviors and attitudes.

Signs of eating disorders may differ between males and females and in different age groups.  Often, a young person may not recognize the signs that they might have an eating disorder.  Parents/guardians and family members are in a position to notice behaviors that cause concern.  It is important that a child with an eating disorder be treated early by someone who understands this type of care.

Learn more about eating disorders and what you can do to support your child at this link.

Renovation Queue Survey

Share Your Thoughts on Schools and Buildings in the Renovation Queue Survey

Whether you work in an FCPS school, have a child enrolled, or live near an FCPS school, please share your perspective about building conditions, how facilities affect teaching and learning, renovation priorities, and what information would help you better understand this process.

Look for the survey in your email from Friday, October 16. The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. Participation is voluntary, and all responses will be kept confidential. The survey will remain open until Saturday, October 31.

Did You Know? Bond Referendums Fund Facility Renovations

FCPS does not pay for facility renovations out of its general operating budget. Instead, Fairfax County voters decide on how much money FCPS can spend on capital improvement projects through bond referendums. Bonds are issued by the county to the school division and allow FCPS to renovate buildings without increasing taxes.

Learn more about bond referendums and how they support our schools on the Bond Referendum webpage.
