Fall Weekly Recaps
Girls Volleyball hosted Justice in the first round of the National District Tournament on Monday evening. It would turn out to be a quick evening the Atoms as they dominated Justice to get the 3-0 sweep of the Wolves. A quick turnaround saw a trip to Hayfield for the district semi-finals. The Atoms fell behind in after the first two sets but came back strong in the third to make it 2-1. The Hawks would win the fourth to end the match and move on to the finals. The Atoms qualified for the Occoquan Region Tournament on Wednesday at Fairfax at 6:30pm.
Boys Volleyball traveled to Thomas Jefferson for the first round of the National District Tournament. The Atoms played hard, giving the Colonials everything they had as they made it interesting by winning the third set after falling in the first two. However, the Colonials would hold off the Atoms in the fourth set to get the win and close the season for the Atoms.
Field Hockey played in the Occoquan Region Tournament this week. The Atoms welcomed South County Monday evening in the quarterfinals of the tournament. The game was tight throughout with a lot of great passing and defense on display by both teams. The Atoms were able to get one in the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead. A lead that they would not give us as they defeated the Stallions thanks to some great defensive plays. The Atoms looked for revenge in their semi-final matchup vs Fairfax (who had beat the Atoms in double OT last year in the region finals). The game didn't disappoint as both teams traded shots and defensive stands to keep the game close. The Lions snuck one past the Atoms in the first quarter. The Atoms had several chances bouncing the ball off the goalie on three straight shots. Unfortunately, those would turn out to be the best looks they would get as the Lions held on to bring the Atoms season to a close.
Football had their bye week this week. They return to the field Friday evening for their final home game of season vs Mt. Vernon.
Cheerleading may have their competition season completed but you can catch their competition performance during halftime of the football game on Friday evening! Come out and check out their performance that had them three points away from qualifying for the Occoquan Region Championships.
Flag Football hosted Wakefield and Justice Tuesday evening. In the first matchup the Warriors would play great defense against on the Atoms as they took the match up 13-0. The Atoms got a second chance on the night, this time versus Justice. The Atoms would dominate both sides of the ball as they won the game 29-0. The Atoms play their final game of the season at TJ Tuesday.
