A Message from the Administrative Team

Dear Ravensworth Family,

It was fantastic seeing everyone last Friday at our PTA Sponsored Trunk or Treat.  We want to give a huge shout out to our incredible PTA who worked so hard to get the sponsors, set up, coordinate, and make this event so memorable for all our students and staff.

We want to remind everyone that tomorrow is a 2-Hour Early Release with dismissal at 1:20PM and all students will be dismissed at this time.  Tomorrow, we have our Storybook Parade at 9:15AM in the bus loop. Please join us for this event!

Monday and Tuesday are no school days for students, and we look forward to seeing all our students back in the building on Wednesday, November 4th!

Enjoy the long fall weekend,

Sincerely,

Shannon Mueck and Amy Heiman

Ravensworth Storybook Parade

storybook

To celebrate our "storybook parade", students are encouraged to dress up as a favorite book character tomorrow Friday, October 30th, 2026 (9:15am)

Students should bring a copy of a book that includes the character they are representing. The book must be one that the child has either read or listened to an adult read.

Guidelines for Book Character Costumes:

  • Characters must be age appropriate and from elementary or middle-grade level books.
  • Costumes may not involve book or other horror-type elements.
  • No weapons of any kind or masks that cover the entire face.
  • Costumes must allow students to take care of personnel needs, sit at desks, and participate in school and classroom activities throughout the day, including appropriate shoes for PE.

Daylight saving time ends this weekend

daylight saving time

Daylight saving time ends Sunday, Nov. 1st at 2:00 am local time. Clocks will turn back to 1:00 am, giving us an extra hour overnight but bringing sunsets an hour earlier.

Bravery Breakfast

veterans breakfast2

Calling All Veterans!

Please join us for our Bravery Breakfast on Wednesday, November 11, from 8:15 to 8:45 a.m. Veterans and their families are invited to enjoy coffee and donuts in the cafeteria while Ravensworth students present a special program.

Immediately afterward, those who wish to participate are invited to join our “Veterans’ Walk” through the Ravensworth hallways.

We are asking families to create a poster for our Veterans Wall. This year we are creating a Veterans Wall where we will showcase the veterans from our Ravensworth community. These can be parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, or even neighbors. Create a visual tribute, and send it in with your student by 11/10/26. Posters will be displayed on our “Veterans Wall” in the cafeteria for the month of November. You can make one larger collage to represent several veterans or make smaller 8.5” X 11” inch posters to represent each veteran individually. Artist’s choice! (This is separate from the photos that were submitted for our slideshow.)

Please Return Your Federal Impact Aid Survey

impact aid

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available in SIS ParentVUE under Online Packets, which is in the upper right corner of the screen after logging in. Please complete it as soon as possible. Schools will provide paper forms to families who have not completed the survey in ParentVUE.

Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is how we ensure we receive all the resources available to us from the federal government. For more information, please visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page.

Help Your Student Stay Focused and Engaged Without Digital Distractions

cell phone

Please remind your student that personal electronic communication or computing devices should be off and personally stored (i.e., in backpacks) for the duration of the school day: bell to bell.

This includes personal laptops, tablets, smartwatches, smartphones, and similar devices. Students can only use FCPS-issued devices for school-related digital activities during the instructional day. There are exceptions for students with disabilities and those enrolled in specific courses.

If you need to reach your student during the school day, please call the school’s front office. Learn more about the FCPS cellphone policy and device policy.

The Importance of the Flu Vaccination

Flu Season is coming
  • The annual flu vaccine is the most effective way to protect your child from getting sick and to prevent the spread of illness within our classrooms. Staying up-to-date with your child's flu vaccination helps:
  • Reduce School Absences: Keeping students healthy means more time spent learning and engaging with peers.
  • Protect the Community: Vaccination helps shield vulnerable family members and neighbors from seasonal illness.
  • Support Overall Wellness: Routine flu shots are a key component of a proactive student health plan.

Upcoming Flu Shot Events

FCPS, in partnership with Inspire Health Alliance, will be providing flu shots for all FCPS students, ages 18 and under, with no out-of-pocket costs. Multiple events will be taking place at designated FCPS locations. Additional dates will be made available throughout the school year. Parents or guardians may view upcoming events and schedule an appointment for their student. Participation is voluntary.
