Message from Dr. Khoshaba
Greetings, SoCo family,
It’s hard to believe we’re already closing out October! Time flies when we’re making so many wonderful memories together. As we look back on the month, I’m grateful for the energy, kindness, and school spirit our students and staff bring each day. Now, let’s take a look at this week’s reflections.
School Culture
Raising the Bar, SoCo Style!
As our Fall athletic season comes to a close, congratulations to everyone who participated and shared their time, talent, and team spirit this year. This week, I had the chance to brag on a few students in front of their classmates for their athleticism and leadership; they really raised the bar! A proud SoCo moment. I always love celebrating our students in front of their peers and recognizing how they inspire those around them.
Serving Up a Season of Growth
Boys Volleyball closed out its season against Robinson Secondary, bringing a spirited year to a close. Although the score didn’t fall our way, this team served up plenty to celebrate through its growth, determination, and accomplishments. So much to be proud of. We’re grateful for the effort and heart these athletes brought to the court all season.
Still in the Game
Girls Flag Football is still in the game, and this week’s Senior Night made an already exciting season even more special. We’re proud of the energy and determination the team brings to the field, and our seniors have carried the flag for SoCo with pride! A night to remember. Let’s keep cheering the team on as they make the most of the rest of their season.
Turning the Page Across the SoCo Pyramid
Our Honor Society student leaders are helping us reach the division goal of having every third grader read on level by preparing to visit our feeder elementary schools and read aloud to students. At a recent SoCo pyramid meeting, our high school leaders did a phenomenal job sharing how they hope to mentor their elementary counterparts and plant seeds of confidence and curiosity. A powerful chapter in the making. Together, these student mentors are turning the page toward a stronger reading future across our pyramid.
READ All About Belonging
Speaking of reading, our new READ posters celebrate both a love of books and a school where every student belongs. As we continue enhancing our culture of literacy, these posters are bright reminders that everyone has a place in our story, and that belonging is always a page-turner! These advertisements are welcoming messages on every wall. A heartfelt thank-you to Librarian Ronielle Romney for completing this wonderful project for our school, and our always-generous PTSO for financially supporting this initiative.
Coach’s Corner
As we reach the end of the quarter, now is a crucial time for students to review their academic progress and ensure everything is turned in. Encourage your student to check their grades this week to review any missing assignments, upcoming unit tests, or opportunities for growth. Reaching out to teachers and collaborating together makes all the difference, so please remind your student to message or speak with their teachers directly if they have questions about their current standing. Let's work together to help them wrap up the quarter with confidence!
That’s it for this week! Wishing everyone a happy Halloween and a spooktacular time at our trick-or-treating event! Stay safe, have fun, and enjoy making sweet memories together.

AWARENESS
As required by Virginia Code § 22.1-206.2 VDOE and the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) require schools to distribute and post information that helps high school students make informed decisions about their futures. This includes information about the costs and benefits of different educational and certificate programs, as well as information to help students understand and plan for their postsecondary options. The Postsecondary Opportunities for High School Students webpage and the Level Up Virginia website each contain information for students on preparing, applying, and paying for college, as well as information on degree options and labor market career projections.

Panelists will share personal experiences and practical ideas for building supportive, inclusive communities where students can thrive both in and beyond the classroom.
