Centreville Students, Families, and Community,
It was another busy but amazing week across the Wildcat Nation! This week, I had the opportunity to catch our student-athletes in action across field hockey, girls' flag football, cross country, cheer, and boys' volleyball as our fall sports begin to wrap up their seasons. I continue to take tremendous pride not only in the accomplishments of our student-athletes, but also in the way they represent Centreville High School with class, integrity, and sportsmanship. Their dedication, teamwork, and commitment are a reflection of the positive culture we continue to build as a school community. Congratulations to all of our fall athletes and coaches on their hard work this season, and best of luck to those teams continuing their postseason journeys!
This week, I also want to reinforce the importance of regular school attendance and ask for our families' continued partnership in this area. As a school, we closely monitor chronic absenteeism as an important measure of student engagement and school success. As a reminder, students are considered chronically absent when they miss 10% or more of school days, including both excused and unexcused absences. Currently, our seniors represent the largest number of students who are chronically absent, and I want to emphasize that student-organized "senior skip days" are not approved or excused by the school. While we recognize the excitement that comes with senior year, regular attendance remains essential to staying engaged, demonstrating learning, and preparing for success beyond high school. I encourage all families to continue having conversations with their students about the importance of showing up each day, arriving on time, and making the most of every opportunity to learn. Every day matters, and together, we can make a meaningful difference in both individual student success and our school's continued growth.
Looking ahead, we have officially reached the final week of the first quarter! It is hard to believe how quickly the year is moving, and I encourage all students to use these final days to stay focused, connect with their teachers, and demonstrate their learning. As a reminder, Friday will be an early-release day for all students, followed by no school for students on Monday and Tuesday. These days will provide our teachers with dedicated time for professional learning, collaboration, and finalizing first-quarter grades as we prepare for the next chapter of the school year.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support and partnership. Whether it is cheering on our Wildcats, reinforcing the importance of attendance, or helping our students finish the quarter strong, the strength of Centreville lies in the collective efforts of our students, staff, families, and community. Let's continue to build on our progress and get better, together!
Go Wildcats!

Encouraging Regular Attendance: Regular attendance is a good habit to establish in childhood. It can lead to greater success in high school, college, and careers. Teachers and students miss your child when they can’t make it to school. If you or your family need support, please reach out to your school's front office. We are here for you! If students miss too much school, school staff may reach out to the family to partner with them on addressing barriers to regular attendance. Visit the FCPS website for attendance resources.
Help Your Student Stay Focused and Engaged Without Digital Distractions: Please remind your student that personal electronic communication or computing devices should be off and personally stored (i.e., in backpacks) for the duration of the school day: bell to bell.
