The Clearview Community Connect

Stronger Together

Dear Clearview Families,

Thank you to everyone who joined us for last week’s Parent Coffee, Annual Title I Meeting, AAP Information Meeting, and first PTA meeting of the year. A special thank-you to Robin Lady, Dranesville representative on the FCPS School Board, for joining us. It is wonderful to see the support and partnership of our families, community members, and FCPS leadership as we work together to help our students succeed.

Dr Gadsden

This week, we look forward to our PTA-sponsored Costume Bingo on Thursday, October 29 and our school spirit day on Friday, October 30, when students dress like teachers. Thank you for being such an important part of our Clearview community. Your engagement makes a meaningful difference, and we encourage you to reach out anytime you have questions or need assistance.

Have a wonderful week!

Calendar Reminders

Friday, October 30, is the last day of the first quarter, and a two-hour early release for students. Students do not have the option to remain at school (like they do on Early Release Wednesdays).Schools are closed for students on Monday, November 2, for a School Planning Day, and Tuesday, November 3, for a Teacher Workday.

🚨 Change in AFTERNOON Kiss & Ride🚨  Procedure

Due to the high volume of afternoon Kiss & Ride traffic, school buses are experiencing delays arriving to collect students. To ensure all students get home in a timely manner, we are partnering with the Office of Transportation Services to implement the following changes to our afternoon pickup traffic pattern:

  • Right turns are restricted: Making a right turn into the Kiss & Ride entrance is now reserved strictly for school buses and Clearview employees.

  • New route for families: All other cars will be directed to pass the Kiss & Ride entrance, turn around safely in the neighborhood, and drive back toward the school.

  • Wait for the signal: A transportation staff member wearing a bright yellow vest will direct traffic and signal drivers when it is safe to make a left turn into the Kiss & Ride lot.

To further alleviate campus congestion, Dr. Reid strongly urges families with students assigned to a school bus to use the bus service whenever possible instead of Kiss & Ride. Read more in Dr. Reid’s message to families..

We will monitor traffic levels during this implementation and re-assess as needed. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we adjust to this change.

Please Return Your Federal Impact Aid Survey

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available in SIS ParentVUE under “Online Packets” which is in the upper right corner of the screen. Please complete it as soon as possible. Schools will provide paper forms to families who have not completed the survey in ParentVUE starting Wednesday, October 28.

Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is how we ensure we receive all the resources available to us from the federal government. For more information, please visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page.

Outdoor Recess

With the crisp autumn air setting in, please remember to send your child to school with extra layers, including warm coats, hats, and gloves. We head outside for recess every day whenever weather permits, and we want to ensure our students stay warm and comfortable while playing. If you are in need of clothing for the cold weather, please send a Talking Points message to Abigail Thomas or Alexis Pozinsky.

Immunizations

  • The Importance of the Flu VaccinationThe annual flu vaccine is the most effective way to protect your child from getting sick and to prevent the spread of illness within our classrooms. Staying up-to-date with your child's flu vaccination helps:
  • Reduce School Absences: Keeping students healthy means more time spent learning and engaging with peers.
  • Protect the Community: Vaccination helps shield vulnerable family members and neighbors from seasonal illness.
  • Support Overall Wellness: Routine flu shots are a key component of a proactive student health plan.

Upcoming Flu Shot Events

FCPS, in partnership with Inspire Health Alliance, will be providing flu shots for all FCPS students, ages 18 and under, with no out-of-pocket costs. Multiple events will be taking place at designated FCPS locations. Additional dates will be made available throughout the school year. Parents or guardians may view upcoming events and schedule an appointment for their student. Participation is voluntary.

Herndon Homecoming Parade

Get ready for the red carpet and join your Clearview friends in the Herndon Homecoming Parade on Saturday 10/24!  The Clearview 6th grade has been working hard on a float featuring the Hollywood Walk of Fame and you can be famous too!  There are many ways to participate!

  • Research a Hollywood Movie Star (from any time period) featured on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and create a costume to become or represent them!
  • Wear a costume of any movie character you like! (No weapons or scary faces, please)
  • Dress in dark colors and sunglasses to be a star’s bodyguard
  • Dress however you want and bring along a camera (real or your own cardboard creation!) to be part of the Paparazzi trying to get the “money shot!”
  • Wear your Clearview gear and come ready to wave and share our awesome Clearview spirit with the whole town!

This week, we will be provided a number where we will meet at Herndon Middle School around 9:00 AM on Saturday 10/24.  Each student must have a responsible adult with them throughout the event. The parade route is about 1 mile from HMS down Elden Street to the Herndon Caboose.  Reach out to Sara Murphy with questions sara@murphmail.org.

Safe Routes to School Parent and Caregiver Survey

As part of the Fairfax County School Board’s Annual School-Based Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Assessment, the FCPS Office of Safety and Security and Safe Routes to School program are inviting parents and caregivers to share their experiences traveling to and from school.

The Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Survey asks about walking and biking routes, traffic near schools, kiss and ride experiences, accessibility, and other safety concerns.

Your feedback will help FCPS identify common issues. Your responses will be kept confidential and shared with school administrators and the Office of Safety and Security. The five-minute survey is open through Thursday, October 15.

Be sure to identify the school related to your feedback and include specific locations where you have observed a safety issue. If you have students at different schools in FCPS, please complete a different survey for each school.

If you have any questions about the survey, please contact SafeRoutestoSchool@fcps.edu.

Disability History and Awareness Month

Disability History and Awareness Month

In 2009, the Virginia legislature declared every October as Disability History and Awareness Month. See the list of Designated Dates enacted by the Virginia General Assembly. October is also Learning Disabilities Awareness Month and National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

National Bullying Prevention Month

October is National Bullying Prevention Month. To help develop a common understanding of Bullying, below is the FCPS definition.

Bullying in Students Rights and Responsibilities is defined as: “Any aggressive and unwanted behavior that is intended to harm, intimidate, or humiliate the victim; involves a real or perceived power imbalance between the aggressor or aggressors and victim; and is repeated over time or causes severe emotional trauma. “Bullying” includes cyberbullying. “Bullying” does not include ordinary teasing, horseplay, argument, or peer conflict.”

For more information on how FCPS handles a bullying situation please visit the FCPS Bullying Prevention and Intervention webpage. Our goal is to ensure all students feel safe and welcome at school. If you have questions and/or concerns about something that is going on at school, please contact the front office so that they can support you and most importantly your child.
