Field Hockey Wins District Championship!
For the fourth time in five years, the Atoms Field Hockey team wins the National District Championship! The Atoms host South County Monday evening at 6:30pm in the Occoquan Region Tournament
Fall Weekly Recaps
Girls Volleyball played their final two regular season games this. First was a trip down Route 1 to Mt. Vernon where the Atoms handled their business and finished off the Majors in 4 set. The final game was a home date with TJ. The Atoms took the first set but were unable to secure two more as TJ took the win back down Little River. The Atoms turn their attention to the National District Tournament where they are the three seed and host Justice Monday evening at 6:00pm.
Boys Volleyball had their final regular season matches this week. The Atoms welcomed Mt. Vernon to campus Monday where the fans were treated to an exciting five set thriller that ultimately saw the Majors pull ahead to get the win. The Atoms traveled to TJ for their final game and the Colonials ran away for the district win. The Atoms travel to Falls Church for their Quarterfinal National District Tournament game vs the Jaguars at 7:00pm on Monday.
Field Hockey hosted Falls Church in the National District Semi-finals Monday evening. The last game these teams played was a 1-0 final in favor of the Atoms. The result was the same but the dominance the Atoms displayed was superior as they put the Jaguars away 4-0. The win put the Atoms in the district championship for the 5th year in a row! The game started slow but the Atoms would score two in the second and add a third goal in the final minute to secure a 3-0 win over Hayfield and their fourth National District Championship in five years! The Atoms host South County Monday at 6:30pm in the Occoquan Region Tournament.
Football traveled to Lewis for their final regular season road game Friday evening. The game was a defensive battle and offensive struggle for both teams. Lewis scored on their first possession and that would be the only scoring for the game, 7-0. The Atoms had multiple chances inside the 10 yard line but the Lancers would hold their ground. The second half was missed opportunities for the Atoms as back to back fumbles allowed the Lancers to keep the momentum. The Atoms defense was on their game stopping multiple Lancers drives inside their own 10 and blocking two field goal attempts to keep the Atoms in the game. Unfortunately, the offense was unable to get something across the goal line. The Atoms have a bye week and return home for the final regular season home game Friday, November 6 for senior night.
Boys and Girls Cross Country ran in the National District Championship Wednesday afternoon at Burke Lake. The Atoms ran hard but were unable to secure a top team finishing position to qualify for regions. The Atoms were led by Alice Banks and Connor Uzokoff as they were the first Atoms to cross the line. Several Atoms ran their personal best times in their final race of the season!
Cheerleading competed in the finals of the National District Championship on Wednesday evening and the team treated the crowd to some amazing performances. The Atoms were first on the mat for the first round and they set the tone for the rest of the district with their incredible performance that placed them third after the first round. The Atoms competed a second time and again had an amazing routine but unfortunately they would finish three points out of fourth place, that would have qualified them for the region championship. This was the Atoms highest finish in the district championships since pre-Covid!
Flag Football took on Alexandria City this week in their lone game of the week. The Titans proved to be a lot for the Atoms as they ran away with the win. The Atoms return home Tuesday evening.
