Reminders
Reflections is a National PTA multi-level arts program that brings students, families, and communities together through creativity.
Each year, students create original works of art in response to a student-created theme. Students can enter one or more arts categories and participate in the program division that best fits their grade level or support needs. Entries will be judged, and winners will be announced at our Reflections Art Show in December.
This year’s theme, “What My Culture Means to Me,” invites students to reflect on the traditions, experiences, stories, values, people, places, and communities that shape who they are. Students can share their unique perspectives and help others see the beauty and richness of different cultures.
Enter now through Nov. 13!

All Hands on Deck! Join Us for Our Native Plant Garden Clean-Up Day – Nov 7
Dear School & Neighborhood Community,
Our school’s native plant garden is a wonderful outdoor learning space for our students, but it needs some serious love—and we need your help to bring it back to life!
We are hosting a massive Garden Clean-Up Day and extending a warm invitation to our families, neighbors, local community groups, youth organizations, and volunteer clubs to join forces with us.
Event Details:
-
Date: Saturday, November 7th
-
Rain Date: Sunday, November 8th (in case of heavy rain on Saturday)
-
Time: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM (Drop in for an hour or stay for the day!)
-
Location: School Native Plant Garden
-
Contact: Ken Kuchta (kwkuchta@fcps.edu)
What We’ll Be Doing: We have a large area to tackle, focusing primarily on pulling weeds and spreading sheet mulch to prepare the garden for the seasons ahead.
What to Bring:
- Work gloves and water bottles
-
Tools Needed: If you have shovels, pitchforks, or wheelbarrows you can bring along, please do! (Please make sure to label your equipment with your name).
Looking for Ongoing Garden Champions: Beyond November 7th, we are also looking for individuals or small groups who might be interested in committing to light, ongoing garden maintenance on a regular basis. If you love gardening, native ecology, or just spending time outdoors, we would adore your support throughout the year.
How to Sign Up: Whether you are coming solo, bringing your family, or organizing a team from your local club, please let us know you’re coming by replying to this message or contacting Ken Kuchta (kwkuchta@fcps.edu).
Thank you for helping us care for our environment and maintain a beautiful, thriving space for our students. We can't wait to see you there!
Cell Phone Policy
Due to a new VA law passed earlier this year, FCPS has implemented a “bell-to-bell” phone-free policy across all grade levels. This means no cell phones, cell phone accessories, and smart devices (including AirPods, earbuds, headsets, and smart glasses) must be turned off and personally stored in a backpack or locker away by all students for the entire school day.
If you need to reach your student for any reason during the school day, please call their subschool and they will relay a message for you.

Please remind your student that personal electronic communication or computing devices should be off and personally stored (i.e., in backpacks) for the duration of the school day: bell to bell.
This includes personal laptops, tablets, smartwatches, smartphones, and similar devices. Students can only use FCPS-issued devices for school-related digital activities during the instructional day. There are exceptions for students with disabilities and those enrolled in specific courses.
If you need to reach your student during the school day, please call the school’s front office. Learn more about the FCPS cellphone policy and device policy.

Share Your Thoughts on Schools and Buildings in the Renovation Queue Survey
Whether you work in an FCPS school, have a child enrolled, or live near an FCPS school, please share your perspective about building conditions, how facilities affect teaching and learning, renovation priorities, and what information would help you better understand this process.
Look for the survey in your email from Friday, October 16. The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. Participation is voluntary, and all responses will be kept confidential. The survey will remain open until Saturday, October 31.
Did You Know? Bond Referendums Fund Facility Renovations
FCPS does not pay for facility renovations out of its general operating budget. Instead, Fairfax County voters decide on how much money FCPS can spend on capital improvement projects through bond referendums. Bonds are issued by the county to the school division and allow FCPS to renovate buildings without increasing taxes.
Learn more about bond referendums and how they support our schools on the Bond Referendum webpage.
