Collage of nine photos showcasing elementary school students and staff participating in Digital Citizenship Spirit Week themed dress-up days.

Our Roadrunners brought maximum enthusiasm to Digital Citizenship Spirit Week as we learned all about navigating the digital world with kindness, safety, and respect! From putting on our thinking caps for Monday’s Hat Day to standing out in red, rocking crazy socks, spreading positivity in kindness t-shirts, and getting cozy in our pajamas on Friday, every day was packed with school spirit and great lessons.

Being a good digital citizen is always in style! 💻✨🌐

🗽Landmarks, Symbols, and Big Learning! Our 2nd graders had a blast exploring iconic American symbols and landmarks—like the Statue of Liberty, the Washington Monument, and the bald eagle! Using interactive GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition Design) strategies, our teachers brought these social studies concepts to life through rich visuals, collaborative discussions, and hands-on learning.

Roadrunner Roundup

Dear Little Run Families,

Happy Friday! We loved seeing all of our students participate in our Digital Citizenship spirit week! It was wonderful to watch them learn and demonstrate what it means to be safe, respectful, and responsible digital citizens both at school and at home.

We hope to see many of our families out tonight celebrating at the various Woodson Homecoming events! Be sure to keep an eye out during the parade for our SCA representatives and Ms. Yarn!

Earlier this morning, detailed information regarding the Outstanding Employee Awards was sent to your inbox. If you know of a teacher, instructional assistant, office staff member, custodian, or administrator who has gone above and beyond to support your child and family, please consider submitting a nomination to recognize their incredible work. You can click here to submit your nomination.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, Saturday, October 24, we are thrilled for the big PTA Roadrunner Games! It promises to be an energetic morning full of team games, community connections, and fundraising for our school. We are still looking for additional volunteers to help make the event a success—if you are available to lend a hand, please consider signing up through the PTA Volunteer Sign-Up Link.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support of our school community. We hope to see you at the games tomorrow morning!

Sincerely,

Christie Yarn, Principal
Alison Butler, Assistant Principal

Action Required: Please Return Your Federal Impact Aid Survey

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available in SIS ParentVUE under Online Packets, which is in the upper right corner of the screen after logging in. Please complete it as soon as possible. Schools will provide paper forms to families who have not completed the survey in ParentVUE starting Wednesday, October 28.

Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is how we ensure we receive all the resources available to us from the federal government. For more information, please visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page.

Register for ParentVUE

Learn how to activate your SISParentVUE account so you can easily submit your survey and have access to other helpful information about your child.

Book Character Day - October 30

Mark your calendars! Book Character Day is coming on Friday, October 30th, and we invite all students and staff to join the fun by dressing up as their favorite book character!

This is the perfect chance to read together at home and brainstorm a simple, homemade costume. Pull out those hats, props, and old clothes—no need to buy anything new!

Keep the Magic Safe!

For the safety and comfort of everyone, please ensure outfits are not violent or scary. Masks, weapons, and dangerous-looking items are strictly prohibited.

Talk with your child about their character choice; sharing their story will be the best part of the day! We look forward to seeing our school filled with characters from countless stories!

Encouraging Regular Attendance

Regular attendance is a good habit to establish in childhood. It can lead to greater success in high school, college, and careers. Teachers and students miss your child when they can’t make it to school. If you or your family need support, please reach out to your school's front office. We are here for you!

If students miss too much school, school staff may reach out to the family to partner with them on addressing barriers to regular attendance. Visit the FCPS website for attendance resources.
