WWES Friday Updates 10/23/2026

October 23, 2026

Dear Waynewood Owls,

Happy Friday, Owls! This week the crisp autumn air and bright sunshine made for the absolute best backdrop for one of our favorite traditions of the year: Field Day! Our students brought so much energy, teamwork, and good sportsmanship to every single station. A massive shout-out goes to our incredible PE teachers, Mrs. Greiner and Mr. Taylor, for organizing such a seamless and high-energy event. We also want to give a huge thank you to our outstanding 6th graders who stepped up to run the stations.  Their leadership and encouragement made the day extra special for our younger students.

While our students were busy staying active outdoors, our staff received a delightful surprise inside! We want to express our heartfelt thanks to our amazing PTA for the wonderful "Mailbox Boo" treats. Knowing we have such a supportive community behind us truly brightens our work, and every single sweet gesture was so deeply appreciated by our teachers and staff.

Hard to believe, but next week marks the official end of the first quarter! Our teachers and students have worked incredibly hard over these past nine weeks, and we are so proud of the growth and learning we have seen in every classroom. To celebrate all of this hard work, we will be holding a special Spirit Day on Friday, October 30. We invite all of our Owls to wear orange and black or their favorite fall attire to show off their seasonal spirit! Please remember that Friday, October 30 is also a two-hour early release day, and there will be no childcare available at the school, so please plan accordingly for your child’s arrival home.

The PTA is hosting our highly anticipated Fall Fun Night on Thursday, October 29. Thanks to our community’s overwhelming generosity during the Jog-A-Thon, we exceeded our fundraising goals, which means this fantastic evening is completely free to all Waynewood students this year! Join us for an evening packed with a trunk-or-treat, a live DJ, and plenty of other spooky surprises for the whole family to enjoy.

Looking just a little further ahead, two of our favorite November traditions are right around the corner: our Thanksgiving Luncheon and the annual Gobbler Gallop! The Gobbler Gallop is a wonderful family event taking place on Saturday, November 21. It’s always a highlight of the season, so please be sure to visit the PTA website soon to register your runners and secure your spot in the race.  Please let us know how many guests we can expect at the Thanksgiving luncheon this year by completing the Google form below.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership, your enthusiasm, and for making Waynewood such a vibrant place for our children to learn and grow. Enjoy a wonderful weekend with your families!

Sincerely,

Katie Cachine, Principal

Alyssa Bonner, Assistant Principal

Spotlight: Field Day

Waynewood Students Participated in Field Day

On Thursday Waynewood had Field Day. Students rotated through a variety of stations that were led by 6th graders. What a great day!

Thanksgiving Luncheon Survey

The famous Waynewood Thanksgiving Luncheon is coming up soon!  Please help us prepare for this wonderful tradition by providing us with the number of guests that will be attending.

Please complete the outside guest registration form if you plan to bring guests (non-Waynewood students) to the annual Thanksgiving lunch on Friday, November 20, 2026.  This information is essential for us to accurately plan for seating and food for all attendees.

NOTE:  This form is not a reservation for lunch.

Important:  Please complete a separate form for each child and their guests.

Impact Aid

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available in SIS ParentVUE under Online Packets, which is in the upper right corner of the screen after logging in. Please complete it as soon as possible. Schools will provide paper forms to families who have not completed the survey in ParentVUE starting Wednesday, October 28.

Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is how we ensure we receive all the resources available to us from the federal government. For more information, please visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page.

Register for ParentVUE

Learn how to activate your SISParentVUE account so you can easily submit your survey and have access to other helpful information about your child.

Maintain Access to Your Child’s Grades and Assignments: Download the New ParentVUE App

New ParentVUE and StudentVUE mobile apps launched in July. Be sure to download the new app before winter break. After that time, you will need to use the new mobile app or a web browser to access ParentVUE or StudentVUE.

For instructions on installing the new apps and learning more about the updated login process, visit ParentVUE and StudentVUE mobile app resources. If you need assistance, please submit a Parent Support Request.

Spotlight: The Garden

Waynewood Students Explore the Garden

This week some students had the opportunity to visit the garden!  Students harvested the garden's bounty, tasted sorrel (it's very sour) and prepared the soil for the new planting. Thank you to Farmer JP and Farmer Beth for providing this experience for stduents!
