Gator Bytes: News and General Information for Kings Glen ES
English | Español | አማርኛ | 中文 | 한국어 | Tiếng Việt | العربية | فارسی | اردو
Dear Gators,
It is hard to believe that Friday, October 30th marks the end of our first quarter! The past nine weeks have been filled with incredible energy, learning, and connection across our school community.
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our wonderful KP/KG PTA for organizing an outstanding International Night last Friday. It was inspiring to see so many Kings Park and Kings Glen families come together to share and explore traditions, food, and cultures from around the world. Celebrating the richness of our diverse community was a wonderful reminder of the strong school-family partnerships that make our Kings Park/ Kings Glen schools such a welcoming place to learn and grow.
As a reminder, this Friday, October 30th, is both the end of the first quarter and a two-hour early release for all students.
As we reflect on each Gator’s progress so far this year, I encourage you to take time this weekend to celebrate your child’s growth. Try asking them a few reflection questions:
- What is one thing you are most proud of?
- What was something that challenged you, and how did you grow from the challenge?
- What are you excited to accomplish next?
Having these conversations helps your child recognize their own perseverance, ownership, confidence as lifelong learners and grow as students.
Thank you for your continued support, partnership, and engagement in our school community.
Dr. Ritter, Principal • Ms. Gibbs, Assistant Principal

Advanced Academic Programs
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is committed to challenging all students through talent development and differentiated instruction. A continuum of Advanced Academic Program (AAP) services is available to students in Grades K-12 and is designed to match services to each student’s unique academic needs.
Identification for Subject-Specific and Part-Time AAP services occurs throughout the school year. Full-Time AAP services have two identification cycles:
-
Spring identification: Any FCPS student in Grades 2-7 may be referred by December 15, 2026.
- More information about the continuum of AAP services can be found on the FCPS AAP website.
Families are invited to attend AAP Office Hours led by Lisa Rode, the Kings Glen Advanced Academic Resource Teacher (AART) and Jamie Mucciolo (the AART at Kings Park). To view AAP Office Hours dates and request to join, please submit this form to get the Zoom link.
For more information, please contact Lisa Rode, AART, at LMRode@fcps.edu or visit the FCPS Advanced Academic Programs website.
FCPS uses ability testing as one consideration in the holistic identification process for AAP services.
- All students in Grade 2 take the Naglieri General Ability Test (NGAT).
- Students in Grades 3-6 who do not have a multi-domain ability test score take the NGAT.
