Dear Jag Families,
As we approach the end of the first quarter, your role in your child's academic journey becomes even more crucial. Please encourage your child to complete any missing assignments and arrange any retakes they can do to improve their grades before the gradebooks close on Friday, October 30th. Students can arrange to stay with their teachers or access our after-school tutoring support with the deans and NHS tutors in room 1081 on Wednesdays (bus transportation available) and Thursdays (must provide own transportation). Multilingual language support is also available to help ML students with homework and practice their English language skills.
Additionally, we will email Quarter 1 Attendance Report Cards to parents by the end of this week. Your active involvement in reviewing your child's attendance report card with them and discussing the importance of regular attendance and keeping up with their schoolwork can significantly impact their academic performance. If you have questions about the Quarter 1 Attendance Report Cards, please get in touch with the FCHS Deans of Students at FCDeans@fcps.edu. We value your input and are here to address any issues you may have.
Lastly, students will have a 2-hour early release on Friday, October 30th, and no school on Monday, November 2nd, or Tuesday, November 3rd. Students are expected to return to school for the start of Quarter 2 on Wednesday, November 4th. Let's start second quarter strong, with all of our Jaguars in attendance!
FCHS Deans of Students,
Mrs. Rios (A-Log) and Mrs. Martin (Loh-Z)

The AP Capstone program is based on two yearlong AP courses: AP Seminar and AP Research. Rather than teaching subject-specific content, these courses develop students’ skills in research, analysis, evidence-based arguments, collaboration, writing, and presenting. Students that receive a score of 3 or higher (out of 5) on both of these courses are awarded the AP Seminar and Research Certificate. Students that score a 3 or higher on both courses and an additional four AP Exams are awarded the AP Capstone Diploma.
We are proud to announce the awards earned by these Class of 2026 graduates:
2026 Recipients of the AP Capstone Diploma
Jayden Nguyen
Jessica Pham
Olivia Wanchick
2026 Recipients of the AP Seminar and Research Certificate
Darla Ochoa-Orellana
Sherlyn Vargas
At Falls Church, AP Seminar is offered as a 10th grade English Course and AP Research is offered as an 11th or 12th grade elective. For more information on the AP Capstone program, contact Dr. Redden-Liotta (cjreddenliot@fcps.edu) or your counselor.

Eating disorders can have a serious effect on health and affect every aspect of the child’s life. They are not identified based on weight changes as much as behaviors and attitudes.
Signs of eating disorders may differ between males and females and in different age groups. Often, a young person may not recognize the signs that they might have an eating disorder. Parents/guardians and family members are in a position to notice behaviors that cause concern. It is important that a child with an eating disorder be treated early by someone who understands this type of care.
In collaboration with the Fairfax County Health Department, FCPS has developed a web page with detailed information and resources for parents and guardians. If you think your child may be showing signs of a possible eating disorder, please contact your doctor, school nurse, or one of the resources listed on the web page. The earlier a person with an eating disorder seeks treatment, the greater the likelihood of physical and emotional recovery.
Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors interested in a future in law, government, or public policy are invited to apply for the School Board’s Student Leadership Development Program. Applications for the 2026-2027 cohort are being accepted now through November 6. More information about this program can be found on the SLDP website. The application can be found here. Please reach out to the School Board Office with any questions at SBStudentLeadership@fcps.edu or 571-423-1075.
