Principal's Message
Dear Marshall Road Families,
As the seasons (finally) change please label your students sweatshirts and jackets in case they are left on the playground as our days begin cool but often warm up. Please check our Lost & Found just outside the cafeteria if you are missing an item.
We hope you can join us for Family Partnership Night scheduled for this Thursday from 5:30-8:00 pm. Please complete the brief Family Partnership Night Survey today regarding attendance and if you would like pizza prior to the sessions.
We are looking forward to the Runathon taking place on Friday, November 6.

- 11:15 am - 12:15 pm - Grades 2, 3, 4
- 1:45 pm - 2:45 pm - Grades PreK, K, 1
As we approach Veterans Day, we would like to recognize our service members and veterans at the beginning of each run. If you or a family member are currently serving in the military or are a veteran and will be attending the runathon, please let us know by emailing the following information Karlen Lehman (kslehman@fcps.edu).
- Name of family member who serves/has served in the U.S. Armed Forces
- Branch of Military
- Rank in Military
- Name and relationship to MRES student or staff member
- Which run you will be attending
One last thing, if you are coming to the school to visit for any reason that takes you outside the office or clinic such as a parent teacher conference, lunch, Tuesday Folder stuffing or to volunteer, please be sure to bring your ID for check-in purposes. Thank you.
Have a great week.

School Events and Information
Federal Impact Aid Survey
Beginning Tuesday, October 20, parents can log into their ParentVue (using Chrome) accounts and complete the Federal Impact Aid Survey for each child. A completed form is required for every student whether they are federally impacted or not. The Impact Aid Program is a federal program designed to directly compensate local school districts that have been financially impacted by federal activities. The program’s mission is to reimburse local school districts for local revenues lost due to the presence of federally owned, and therefore tax exempt, property in Virginia ONLY. Please complete the survey by October 29th to avoid receiving a paper copy. Thank you.
Outstanding Employee Awards
Please take a moment to nominate a MRES staff member for an Outstanding Employee Award. The nomination window opened today and closes November 12th. You may submit nominations for all 6 categories: Teacher, New Teacher, Principal, Professional Staff, Educational Services and Operational Services. Nomination Form
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screening
FCPS is committed to supporting all students’ mental wellness and social and emotional learning. FCPS approved a Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener that students use to share their perspectives on how well their school and community help them develop skills they need to succeed. These skills include achieving goals, understanding, and managing emotions, establishing, and maintaining relationships with adults and peers, and making responsible decisions. Students also share how successful their school and community are at making them feel valued, included, and supported. These factors are critical to positive academic, social, and emotional success. All students in grades 3-12 have the opportunity to participate in the screener twice a year, in the fall and spring. Marshall Road ES has scheduled the administration of the fall SEL Screener for the week of October 19th-23rd. Opt-outs forms have been pushed out through The Parent Digital Consent System at the FCPS Opt-Out Page. Questions? Please reach out to Meg Gillespie at mmgillespie@fcps.edu or (703) 937-1558.

Book Character Pumpkin Patch
We will be decorating the MRES Library with painted/decorated pumpkins representing some of our favorite books and book characters again this year for our 4th annual Book Character Pumpkin Patch. This is an optional activity that some of our teachers, staff, and students will be participating in. Families are welcome to decorate and paint a pumpkin at home too! If you would like to decorate a pumpkin at home, just be sure it represents a book or book character (google “Book Character Pumpkins” for inspiration!). You can use a real pumpkin OR an artificial one. Pumpkins can be dropped off in the main office or in the Library anytime during the week of October 26th. Families who send decorated pumpkins to the school should plan on picking up their pumpkin to take back home anytime after October 30th. Contact Librarian, Lisa Hoffman (lahoffman@fcps.edu), with any questions.

MRES Staff Spotlight - Ms. Epley
Hello Roadrunners! I’m Tiffany Epley. I’m entering my fourth-year teaching 3rd grade at Marshall Road! I’ve worn a lot of hats here over the years however—PTA board member, proud parent, classroom monitor, and teacher. My happy place is anywhere with a beach, reading a good mystery book, traveling to new places, trying delicious food, and most importantly being with my family (my husband Brian, my sons Braeden and August, and our dog Sophie!). What I love most about Marshall Road ES is its incredible team of staff. We’re truly a community dedicated to a shared goal of helping our students learn in the best way possible.

New ParentVUE Mobile App is Here
The new ParentVUE mobile app is now available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. The updated app provides parents and caregivers with a more secure FCPS sign-in experience. Families who use the mobile app must download the new version by December 2026 to maintain continued access to their child’s information through the app. Families will still be able to access ParentVUE through a web browser. In the new app, families can enroll in multi-factor authentication (MFA) for FCPS Single Sign-On. While enrollment is optional, we strongly recommend that everyone enable this security feature. Learn more about installing the new ParentVUE app. Parents needing assistance should submit a Parent Support Request.

Missing Bus ID Cards
Has your student misplaced their FCPS Bus ID card? Before requesting a replacement, please have your student thoroughly check their backpack and belongings, home, the Marshall Road Main Office, and with their bus driver. We ask families to allow at least one week to locate a missing Bus ID before requesting a replacement. If the ID has not been located after one week, please contact our registrar/SIA, Shelly Koshuta (mmarcumkoshu@fcps.edu) to report a missing Bus ID. Thank you for helping us ensure students have an opportunity to locate their original Bus ID before requesting a replacement!
