A Note from the Principal
Dear Daniels Run Families,
It’s another beautiful fall day! I had the privilege of chaperoning our EAC classes on their field trip to Cox Farms. There is nothing quite like seeing the joy students find in pumpkin patches, hay mazes, and hayrides. I grew up in California, where we bought our pumpkins in a supermarket parking lot, so I especially enjoy experiencing the seasons—and all the fun fall traditions that come with them. I hope you have a chance to spend time outdoors and enjoy the season this weekend!
It’s hard to believe we are already approaching the end of the first quarter. We encourage every family to participate in parent-teacher conferences. If you have not yet scheduled a conference, please contact your child’s teacher or reach out to me. We will make sure you have time to talk about your child’s progress.
Kindergarten and First Grade Parade
On Friday, October 30, our kindergarten and first-grade students will have their parade at 9:15 a.m. Kindergarten students will dress as future professionals, and first graders will celebrate their favorite book characters. Families are welcome to stand in front of the school to watch our parade.
Please wait until all buses have unloaded at 9:00 a.m. before gathering in front of the school. We will cone off the loop after the last bus arrives to provide space for families to view the parade.
Two-Hour Early Release and No-School Days
Friday, October 30, is a two-hour early-release day in recognition of the end of the quarter. All students will be released two hours early. There will be no school for students on Monday, November 2, and Tuesday, November 3, due to school planning, conferences, and teacher workdays.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend and a happy start to the fall season!
Warmly,
Susan Mullen
Principal, Daniels Run Elementary School

Safer Together: A Community Event for Online Safety
Sharing this great FREE event for families on Thursday, October 29, from 5:30–7:30 PM at Thoreau Middle School!
Both parents and kids are encouraged to attend! Students (grades K–12) will participate in fun, age-appropriate online safety activities led by FCPS teachers.
Meanwhile, parents and caregivers can join a fireside-style conversation with a panel of experts from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), Fairfax County Police Department, FBI, and FCPS to discuss online safety, current risks, and practical ways to protect our kids.
Such an important topic for families with kids of all ages!
