Centreville Students, Families, and Community,
It is hard to believe that we are already two months into the school year! Time has certainly flown by, and in just two short weeks, we will be closing out the first quarter. As we approach this important milestone, I encourage all students to take time to reflect on their progress, review their assignments, and seek support from their teachers whenever needed. More importantly, I want to emphasize that our focus should not simply be on chasing grades, but rather on demonstrating learning and growth. When we prioritize understanding, developing our skills, and applying what we have learned, the grades will follow. Our teachers and staff are here to support students in that process, and I encourage every Wildcat to take ownership of their learning as we work to finish the quarter strong.
As we settle further into the school year, I also want to ask for our families' continued partnership in reinforcing our expectations regarding cell phones. As a reminder, students are expected to keep their phones stored in their backpacks throughout the entire school day, including during lunch. Phones should not be in pockets, held in hands, or otherwise out during the day. These expectations are not simply about limiting distractions, but about creating an environment where students are fully engaged in their learning, building relationships with their peers, and making the most of their school experience. I appreciate our families continuing to have these conversations at home and supporting our efforts to maintain a positive and focused learning environment.
Looking ahead, next week we will celebrate Custodian Appreciation Week, and I want to take a moment to recognize the incredible work of our custodial team. Every day, often long before students arrive and well after they leave, our custodians work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure our school is clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone who walks through our doors. From maintaining our classrooms and common spaces to supporting the countless events and activities that bring our community together, their contributions are essential to everything we do at Centreville. I encourage our students, staff, and families to take a moment next week to thank our custodial team for their dedication and the pride they take in caring for our school. The Wildcat Nation would not be the same without them!
As always, thank you for your continued partnership and support. Whether it is helping our students stay focused on learning, reinforcing shared expectations, or recognizing those who make our school such a special place, it takes all of us working together to build the community we envision.
Go Wildcats!

Empowering Educators: Staff Professional Learning in Action: At Centreville High School, we strongly believe that students thrive best in schools where educators learn together. During a recent staff professional learning session, our teachers gathered to collaborate, reflect, and refine their instructional tools. This year’s focus centers on providing tailored support, or "scaffolds", so every single Wildcat can successfully access and master challenging, higher-level coursework. Staff members learned directly from their colleagues, sharing practical strategies to strengthen the reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills our students use daily. Just another way our staff models our priority of getting better, together!

Honoring Our Girls Volleyball Class of 2026: Last week, we had the wonderful privilege of honoring our incredible student-athletes during Girls Volleyball Senior Night! Surrounded by coaches, families, and cheering peers, it was clear just how deeply these seniors have connected, forming strong, lasting bonds both on and off the court. Their leadership, passion, and sportsmanship have set a fantastic standard for the entire volleyball program. Congratulations to our seniors, thank you to our Wildcat families for their support, and let’s finish the season strong!

Wildcats Enjoy The Art of Raku Pottery: Our Ceramics students engaged in a truly unique hands-on learning experience this week as they explored the ancient art of Raku firing! Originating in 16th-century Japan, Raku is a dramatic firing technique where pottery is removed from the kiln while glowing red-hot (at nearly 1,800°F) and placed into containers filled with combustible materials like sawdust or paper. As the materials ignite, the containers are sealed, creating an oxygen-starved reduction atmosphere that produces vibrant metallic glazes, unique crackle patterns, and deep black unglazed clay. It was incredible to watch our Wildcat artists blend history, chemistry, and artistry to create stunning, one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces. Kudos to our Ceramics students and art department for bringing this rich cultural tradition to life!

Student Course Fees: Students who are enrolled in a course requiring a course fee received an invoice in MySchoolBucks on September 1st. It's important that these payments are made so that our teachers are able to provide as many supplies as they can for students in those courses for the year. All outstanding course fees and other invoices will officially become a student debt starting on October 30th. Notifications will be sent out shortly thereafter with any outstanding invoices from this year's classes. Additionally, families are asked to take care of any outstanding debts or fees that you may receive that may remain from previous years.
Career Fair at Centreville High School: We are excited to invite family members, community partners, and local organizations to participate in the inaugural CVHS Career Fair on Monday, November 16th from 9:50-11:15am (during advisory). This event will give our sophomore students the opportunity to explore diverse industries, learn about career pathways, and hear directly from professionals in the community. The event will use a table-style networking format. Students will bring guided worksheets to help start conversations about daily job responsibilities, required education or training, and career growth opportunities. Approximately 500 students will be divided between the gym and cafeteria, with a mid-session rotation. To reserve your table, please complete this form by November 1st. We will provide more logistical information closer to the event once you confirm your attendance. We are deeply grateful for your time and partnership in helping our students discover their future paths!

Survey Extended! Share Your Feedback on Traveling to and From School: The FCPS Office of Safety and Security and Safe Routes to School program are asking families to share their experiences traveling to and from their child’s school. The feedback will help inform the Fairfax County School Board’s annual assessment of traffic and pedestrian safety near schools. The Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Survey asks about walking and biking routes, traffic near schools, kiss-and-ride experiences, accessibility, and other safety concerns. Your feedback will help FCPS identify common issues. Your responses will be kept confidential and shared with school administrators and the Office of Safety and Security. The survey takes about five minutes to complete and will be open through Tuesday, October 20. Please note that parents may now submit more than one response to provide feedback regarding different schools. Be sure to identify the school related to your feedback and include specific locations where you have observed a safety issue. If you have students at different schools in FCPS, please complete a different survey for each school. If you have any questions about the survey, please contact SafeRoutestoSchool@fcps.edu.
Share Your Thoughts on Schools and Buildings in the Renovation Queue Survey: The Office of the Chief of Facilities Services and Capital Programs is seeking input from community members, families, and employees about school facility needs and how FCPS prioritizes facility improvements. Whether you work in an FCPS school, have a child enrolled, or live near an FCPS school, please share your perspective. The survey asks about building conditions, how facilities affect teaching and learning, renovation priorities, and what information would help you better understand this process. Look for the survey in your email on Friday, October 16. The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. Participation is voluntary, and all responses will be kept confidential. The survey will remain open until Saturday, October 31.
Did You Know? Bond Referendums Fund Facility Renovations: FCPS does not pay for facility renovations out of its general operating budget. Instead, Fairfax County voters decide on how much money FCPS can spend on capital improvement projects through bond referendums. Bonds are issued by the county to the school division and allow FCPS to renovate buildings without increasing taxes. Learn more about bond referendums and how they support our schools on the Bond Referendum webpage.
