Message from Mantua Admin

Dear Mantua families,

The rain held off, and our students and staff had a blast at the Run for Rocky!  The students' energy soared throughout the day, and it was wonderful to see so many family members come out to support!  This event is always a highlight of the year, and we absolutely loved all the smiling faces!  Rocky the Raccoon joined in on the fun and helped cheer us on to a great day!  Run for Rocky fundraising continues until October 23rd;  you can find more information at www.mantuapta.org.  We’ve shared a few photos, but you can see many more on the Mantua Elementary Instagram page.

For the week ahead:

  • The Family Life Education Preview Night will be October 21st; more details can be found below
  • Please take note of our upcoming Mantua Family Workshop on October 26.  We will hold several workshops throughout the year on different topics to help inform families of some of our education and evaluation processes.  More information can be found below.

We hope you have a wonderful rest of your weekend!

Take good care,

Linda Shannon, Michele Maurer, and Colleen Vaughan

Mantua Family Workshop

At Mantua, we value our partnership with families and want to create opportunities for us to learn and grow together.

This year, we plan to host quarterly Family Workshops to help families learn more about our school, FCPS programs, and ways to support student success. We will offer workshops both in person and virtually, depending on the topic and family interest.

Our first Mantua Family Workshop topic is: Understanding Mantua’s School Improvement Plan (SIIP): Learn about Mantua’s school improvement goals, how we identify areas of growth, and how we work together to support student success.

Please RSVP here to let us know whether you plan to attend our first Family Workshop. We will serve coffee and light refreshments.

K-6th grade classes will be participating in Family Life Education (FLE) lessons beginning in November. Be on the lookout for communication from teachers regarding the specific dates.

FCPS Is Participating in Virginia Quality Birth to Five (VQB5)

Virginia Quality Birth to Five is Virginia’s system for measuring and supporting quality in early childhood programs so children enter kindergarten ready to learn. VQB5 builds on health and safety standards by measuring the quality of teacher-child interactions and the use of the curriculum. Visit the Virginia Quality Birth to Five website for more information.

Share Your Thoughts on Schools and Buildings in the Renovation Queue Survey

The Office of the Chief of Facilities Services and Capital Programs is seeking input from community members, families, and employees about school facility needs and how FCPS prioritizes facility improvements.

Whether you work in an FCPS school, have a child enrolled, or live near an FCPS school, please share your perspective. The survey asks about building conditions, how facilities affect teaching and learning, renovation priorities, and what information would help you better understand this process.

Look for the survey in your email on Friday, October 16. The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. Participation is voluntary, and all responses will be kept confidential. The survey will remain open until Saturday, October 31.

Did You Know? Bond Referendums Fund Facility Renovations

FCPS does not pay for facility renovations out of its general operating budget. Instead, Fairfax County voters decide on how much money FCPS can spend on capital improvement projects through bond referendums. Bonds are issued by the county to the school division and allow FCPS to renovate buildings without increasing taxes.

Learn more about bond referendums and how they support our schools on the Bond Referendum webpage.
