Here's the answer to this week's joke: All of them :)
Dear Navy Families,
What a fantastic week at Navy! We have several exciting updates to share with our community. FCPS Outstanding Employee Nominations are officially open! Let’s celebrate the incredible staff members who make Navy Elementary such a special place to learn, work, and grow. This is your opportunity to recognize an educator or team member who goes above and beyond for our students. Check this week’s newsletter for details on how to submit a nomination.
We wrapped up Hispanic Heritage Month with a vibrant parade! Our students loved smiling, waving, and cheering together as we celebrated the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of the Hispanic community.
To top off our week, student-athletes from Oakton High School visited Navy to read with our students as part of a new community outreach initiative. We were also honored to host FCPS Superintendent Dr. Reid for the inaugural launch of this wonderful program!
As we look toward the end of the first quarter, we are filled with gratitude for our amazing Navy Stars and their hard work, enthusiasm, and kindness inspire us every day. Being part of this supportive, vibrant Navy Elementary family is a true privilege, and we are so proud to partner with you in creating a warm, joyful home for learning.
See you all next week!

October 21, 3-Hour Early Release
To help our 3-hour early release dismissal run as smoothly and safely as possible, we kindly ask families to plan ahead for any changes to their child’s usual dismissal routine. Whether your child will be riding home with another family, joining a different Kiss and Ride pickup, or has another change in plans, please notify the main office by the Monday before the early release day. Early release days are especially busy, and receiving changes in advance gives our staff time to make sure every student gets home safely and as planned. Thank you for helping us make dismissal safe, organized, and smooth for everyone!

Hello Parents! Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) believes in supporting social and emotional learning (SEL) for all students. In FCPS, students use a tool called the SEL Screener to think about their own SEL skills and experiences at school. Students in grades 3-5th will be participating in the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener in the Fall and Spring. Our Navy Spring Date is scheduled for October 21st, 2026.
After each screening, results are available in the Documents tab of SIS ParentVUE and mailed to families without a ParentVUE account. For more information about the SEL Screener please visit FCPS’ Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage.
You can also contact our school counselors, Ms. Fajardo and Ms. Giardina for any additional questions. Thank You for your support with our students’ socio-emotional wellness.

The Office of the Chief of Facilities Services and Capital Programs is seeking input from community members, families, and employees about school facility needs and how FCPS prioritizes facility improvements.
Whether you work in an FCPS school, have a child enrolled, or live near an FCPS school, please share your perspective. The survey asks about building conditions, how facilities affect teaching and learning, renovation priorities, and what information would help you better understand this process.
Look for the survey in your email on Friday, October 16. The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. Participation is voluntary, and all responses will be kept confidential. The survey will remain open until Saturday, October 31.
Did You Know? Bond Referendums Fund Facility Renovations
FCPS does not pay for facility renovations out of its general operating budget. Instead, Fairfax County voters decide on how much money FCPS can spend on capital improvement projects through bond referendums. Bonds are issued by the county to the school division and allow FCPS to renovate buildings without increasing taxes.
Learn more about bond referendums and how they support our schools on the Bond Referendum webpage.
