Ms. Tillman and a student chat while enjoying the fall weather.
Good afternoon, Irving Community,
It’s hard to believe we’re nearing the end of the first quarter! The quarter ends on October 30, and we appreciate your partnership in encouraging your child to check SIS StudentVue, connect with teachers about opportunities to make up missing work or complete reassessments, and use Just In Time effectively. Course Schoology pages are also a helpful resource for questions about assignments.
Our Irving Parent/Community Working Group met Wednesday for a thoughtful conversation about how we can uplift our diverse student body and build a positive school culture. We’re working on several areas, including reviewing educational resources from the Anti-Defamation League and No Place for Hate, identifying potential in-person and virtual speakers, and ensuring students have multiple ways to report behavior that does not align with the Student Rights and Responsibilities or our Irving school culture. Students are encouraged to share concerns with a parent, teacher, staff member, or another trusted adult who can bring the concern to school administration. FCPS also offers an anonymous online tip form. If you’d like to join our next working group meeting, please add your information to this form.
Thank you for your continued support!
With appreciation,
Emily Cincinnati
Principal

Library News
Check out our display of “Spooky Spines,” book that are scary stories that go along with the Halloween season.
In last week’s “Irving Says” poll, 66% of students reported that they’d rather be able to REGENERATE when injured, like a real-life crab, while only 34% said that they’d chose to be INVINCIBLE except for one tiny spot, like a dragon.
7th grade English Book Projects are drawing near an end as the first quarter ends soon. Students who are using library books to complete their 1st quarter book project should return the books as soon as their project is submitted.
Over this weekend I will be sending out email notices of overdue library books. Many people with overdues have books that they are not using for projects. When books are kept out beyond the initial three-week loan period, other students are unable to read those books. Please take the time to find your library books, put them in your backpack and return them to the library on Monday!
Thanks! Ms. Monk & Mr. Brizek, Irving Middle School Librarians

Renovation Queue Survey
Share Your Thoughts on Schools and Buildings in the Renovation Queue Survey
The Office of the Chief of Facilities Services and Capital Programs is seeking input from community members, families, and employees about school facility needs and how FCPS prioritizes facility improvements.
Whether you work in an FCPS school, have a child enrolled, or live near an FCPS school, please share your perspective. The survey asks about building conditions, how facilities affect teaching and learning, renovation priorities, and what information would help you better understand this process.
Look for the survey in your email on Friday, October 16. The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. Participation is voluntary, and all responses will be kept confidential. The survey will remain open until Saturday, October 31.
Did You Know? Bond Referendums Fund Facility Renovations
FCPS does not pay for facility renovations out of its general operating budget. Instead, Fairfax County voters decide on how much money FCPS can spend on capital improvement projects through bond referendums. Bonds are issued by the county to the school division and allow FCPS to renovate buildings without increasing taxes.

A Quick Note to Our Irving Families: Building Something Great for Our Future Spartans! ⚔️
Hello Irving Families!
As our middle schoolers get closer to making the jump to West Springfield High School, those of us on the WSHS Athletic Booster Board are working hard behind the scenes to make sure the facilities waiting for them are top-tier.
Right now, we are in the middle of our Spartan Surge campaign to build Turf Field #2 at West Springfield. The project got a massive shot in the arm recently with a $250,000 grant from the Washington Commanders and NFL Foundation—and now we’re pushing hard to finish the drive before our kids step onto campus.
Having a second turf field means our future high school athletes, marching band members, and local youth sports teams won't have to deal with muddy grass, rain cancellations, or late-night 9 PM off-site practices.
🎙️ Know a Local Business Owner? Exclusive Press Box Naming Rights
We are officially opening up Exclusive Corporate Sponsorships & Press Box Naming Rights for local business owners, corporate partners, and regional leaders across Northern Virginia.
If you own a business, manage a company, or know an executive looking to make a lasting local impact, putting your brand on Field #2 will put you front and center before thousands of local families, visiting teams, and youth sports groups all year long.
