A Message from the Administrative Team

Dear Ravensworth Family,

We are excited to say that our second art teacher, Ms. Mahon, is back with us sharing her expertise and love of art with our students on Tuesdays. Please help us welcome her back!

As we continue through the fall, please remember to help us keep our Ravens safe by always using our designated crosswalks during arrival and dismissal. If you happen to be parked in the visitor parking lot or the parking spaces in the bus loop during arrival or dismissal, please remember to wait to move your vehicle while we have students moving through these areas. We cannot have any cars moving in the bus loop or the parking lots that are accessed through the bus loop during arrival or dismissal.  This area is separate from our Kiss and Ride parking lot. Thank you for your support in ensuring our students are safe.

There is incredible energy in the building as our students eagerly learn about nature in their  lessons. Nothing warms our hearts more than seeing our young readers so eager to dive into new stories and lessons.

Consistent routine plays a huge role in daily academic and social/emotional growth, which is why attendance is so vital. Missing just 10% of school, which breaks down to only two days a month, can negatively affect a student’s academic performance and key foundational skills. To support your child's regular attendance, try establishing a consistent "evening launchpad" routine: set out clothes, pack backpacks, and confirm lunch plans the night before. Removing that morning rush helps reduce anxiety, ensures a calm start to the day, and makes arriving at school on time much smoother for the whole family.

Finally, Ravensworth prides itself on being a caring community.  If you would like to celebrate a staff member for going above and beyond with kindness, please submit an FCPS Cares.  It warms our staff’s hearts to hear the amazing things that are positively impacting your child every day.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership!

Our Ravensworth **Trunk or Treat is Friday, October 23 from 6:30–7:30 PM**, and we need your help to make it a fun night for our families! (Food trucks will arrive at 5:30pm).

We’re looking for **families, community members, and local businesses** to decorate a trunk and hand out candy to our trick-or-treaters. Decorations can be as simple or as elaborate as you’d like — the more trunks, the more fun!

Ravensworth Storybook Parade

storybook

To celebrate our "storybook parade", students are encouraged to dress up as a favorite book character on Friday, October 30th, 2026 at 9:15 am.

Students should bring a copy of a book that includes the character they are representing. The book must be one that the child has either read or listened to an adult read.

Guidelines for Book Character Costumes:

  • Characters must be age appropriate and from elementary or middle-grade level books.
  • Costumes may not involve book or other horror-type elements.
  • No weapons of any kind or masks that cover the entire face.
  • Costumes must allow students to take care of personnel needs, sit at desks, and participate in school and classroom activities throughout the day, including appropriate shoes for PE.

Schools and Buildings in the Renovation Queue Survey

What is a bond video

The Office of the Chief of Facilities Services and Capital Programs is seeking input from community members, families, and employees about school facility needs and how FCPS prioritizes facility improvements.

Whether you work in an FCPS school, have a child enrolled, or live near an FCPS school, please share your perspective. The survey asks about building conditions, how facilities affect teaching and learning, renovation priorities, and what information would help you better understand this process.

Look for the survey in your email on Friday, October 16. The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. Participation is voluntary, and all responses will be kept confidential. The survey will remain open until Saturday, October 31.

Did You Know? Bond Referendums Fund Facility Renovations

FCPS does not pay for facility renovations out of its general operating budget. Instead, Fairfax County voters decide on how much money FCPS can spend on capital improvement projects through bond referendums. Bonds are issued by the county to the school division and allow FCPS to renovate buildings without increasing taxes.

Learn more about bond referendums and how they support our schools on the Bond Referendum webpage.
