Where All Students Shine!

Purple Star School Logo

Dear Kings Park Families,

It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces arrive safely on foot and on wheels for Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day last Wednesday.

Last Thursday, we shared that Kings Park was recognized as Distinguished under Virginia’s School Performance and Support Framework (SPSF). This honor reflects the strength and teamwork of our entire school community.

We are excited to share another special recognition. On October 7th, the Virginia Council on the Educational Opportunity for Military Children approved Kings Park Elementary School as a recipient of the SY 2026–2027 Purple Star 2nd Award. Virginia’s Purple Star Designation recognizes military-friendly schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to students and families connected to our nation’s military.

Kings Park first received the Purple Star Designation in 2023. This year’s renewal affirms our ongoing commitment to our military-connected Lion families. Throughout the year, we support students and families through special events and initiatives, including:

  • Using a DoDEA grant to enhance STEAM learning through Code UP!
  • Creating schoolwide opportunities to honor military service and celebrate our military-connected families such as Blue Star Welcome Week, Veterans Day, and National Purple Up Day.
  • Helping new students, including military-connected students, feel welcome through Student Ambassadors, who offer a friendly face during their first days at Kings Park.

From student achievement to the care we show military-connected families, these recognitions reflect what makes Kings Park a strong and welcoming community. Every day is a good day to be a Lion, and this past week gave us even more to celebrate.

Mrs. Kaplan, Mrs. Lin, and Mrs. Burke standing outside.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Dotty Lin, Mrs. Jenn Burke and Mrs. Anna Kaplan

Kings Park Families: Explore SafeWalkr!

FCPS Safe Routes to School is excited to invite Kings Park families to try SafeWalkr, a new interactive walking map tool developed by Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology students in collaboration with our team!

If you live within Kings Park’s designated walking boundary, explore information about sidewalks, road crossings, and crossing guard locations to help plan your walk to school.

Go to the SafeWalkr tool, select Kings Park, and explore a route with your child. Review current conditions and consider your child’s abilities and supervision needs before walking. The tool does not change walking boundaries or transportation eligibility. Help us improve SafeWalkr by sharing your feedback during the pilot. Thank you for supporting safe, active trips to school!

Celebrating the Power of School Lunches

Multiple studies show that school lunches are important in supporting overall student health by improving students’ diets and combating food insecurity. Students who eat school lunches consume more fruit, vegetables, and fiber than their peers.

This National School Lunch Week, FCPS Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) reminds families that they are dedicated to providing delicious, healthy, sustainable, and student-focused meals. New menu items have been launched this year based on student feedback.

Want to know what’s for breakfast or lunch? View the Nutrition Services menus.

Immunization Events for FCPS Students

FCPS, in partnership with Inspire Health Alliance, will be providing school-required immunizations and optional flu shots for all FCPS students, ages 18 and under, with no out-of-pocket costs. Multiple events will take place at designated FCPS locations.

Additional dates will be made available throughout the school year. Parents or guardians may view upcoming events and schedule an appointment for their student. Participation is voluntary. Additional immunization resources are available.

Community Events

Socktober

This month, the Lake Braddock pyramid will be collecting NEW socks to donate to local shelters and ECHO. Each classroom will have a collection bag. Child and adult socks are welcome.
