Roar Into the Week: Spirt Week Ahead!

Mason District Awards

Congratulations to our wonderful Bailey’s Upper staff members, Marian Perez, Jocelyn Sarwar, Laura Wagner, and Erin Bueno de Mesquita, who were recognized by Mason District's Supervisor Jimenez's FCPS Staff Spotlight for their outstanding service! We’re so proud of this well-deserved recognition and grateful for the dedication and care they bring to our students and school community every day!

Bailey’s Upper Families,

Thank you to all the families who joined us for our first Literacy Night! It was an amazing evening filled with so much love for books.

Students enjoyed book tastings and learned how to choose books that are just right for them. We also shared read-alouds in English and Spanish, visited the book fair, explored STEAM activities, and sent home FREE BOOKS!

As we near the end of the first quarter, teachers are reaching out to schedule conferences. Please make it a priority to meet with your child’s teacher. This is an important opportunity to learn more about how your child is doing, celebrate their strengths, and talk about areas for growth. We look forward to these conversations and to building an even stronger partnership with your family.

Lastly, next week during the PTA General Meeting Ms. Dews and I will be holding our Annual Title 1 Meeting. During this meeting, we will be sharing what Title 1 is, how it benefits families and students, and more. Please plan to log in virtually so that you can learn about our school and the resources we have.

Have a wonderful weekend,

The Bailey’s Upper Team

Neurodiversity and Learning Disabilities

October is Disability History and Awareness Month in Virginia. This is a time to recognize the contributions, experiences, and achievements of people with disabilities. At Bailey’s and across FCPS, we celebrate our differences and remain committed to creating a welcoming community where every student belongs, has access to opportunities, and can thrive. Throughout the month, we’ll highlight different types of disabilities and share ways we can build greater understanding and inclusion.

This week, we’re highlighting neurodiversity and learning disabilities and recognizing that people think, learn, communicate, and process information in different ways. By celebrating individual strengths and providing appropriate support, we can help every student feel valued, included, and empowered to succeed.

For more information, explore FCPS Community Resources for Families of Students with Disabilities.

Disability History and Awareness Month - Staff Highlight: Mary Medeiros

Mary Mederios

Staff Name: Mary Medeiros, Special Education Chair

Ms. Medeiros has been a teacher in FCPS for 22 years. She began her career as a general education teacher, then earned a master’s degree in special education and decided to pursue a new path in my teaching journey. Since 2008, she has served as a special education teacher at Bailey’s, eventually becoming the Special Education Department Chair. One of the most rewarding parts of her career has been serving the Bailey’s community and building lasting relationships with families. It is especially meaningful to celebrate the graduating seniors she first taught as fifth graders at Bailey’s.

Physical & Mobility Disabilities

Physical and mobility disabilities, which can affect how a person moves, navigates spaces, or participates in everyday activities. Some people may use wheelchairs, walkers, prosthetics, or other assistive devices, while others may have physical disabilities that are not immediately visible. By promoting accessibility and removing barriers, we can help everyone participate fully in our school and community.

For more information, explore FCPS Community Resources for Families of Students with Disabilities.
