Our Safety Patrols in Action! 🐾

Our Haycock Safety Patrols, led by PE teacher Jim Wilcox, do an amazing job helping keep our Cougars safe during arrival and dismissal each day! From welcoming students with a friendly smile to helping everyone start their morning safely, our patrols demonstrate leadership and responsibility. Thank you to Mr. Wilcox and our dedicated Safety Patrols for helping make Haycock a safe and welcoming place for all!

Principal's Message

Dear Haycock Families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend and is ready for another week of learning and fun at Haycock!

Boosterthon is in full swing! Keep those donations and activities coming so we can reach our goal. You’ll find more information at the bottom of the Haycock Hello.

On Wednesday evening, we celebrated our third-grade team at the FCPS Impact Awards. It was wonderful to hear about the individuals and groups who have made a difference in student achievement and other aspects of school life. We were especially proud to hear about the impact our own third-grade team has made. Congratulations to the team!

We’re launching our composting program this week. Thank you to Nisha Bhatia, our new Family Liaison, for all her hard work getting it ready. We’re excited to reduce our waste and do more to care for the environment.

FCPS schools will be open on a regular instructional schedule on Veterans Day, November 11. Under the updated school calendar, Veterans Day is a regular school day for students. SACC and before- and after-school care will be closed because the program follows a separate holiday and operating schedule.

I hope everyone has a great week!

With appreciation for your partnership,

Jeremy Ferrara, Principal jcferrara1@fcps.edu

Heather Boyd, AP   HABoyd@fcps.edu

Krystal Styles, AP   krstyles@fcps.edu

Reminders

Keeping Our Haycock Community Safe

As our students and families travel to and from school each day, please remember to use extra caution when driving on the roads surrounding Haycock. Be especially mindful of children and pedestrians, follow posted traffic signs and speed limits, and take a few extra moments to look carefully before turning, parking, or pulling away.  If you are dropping off or picking up a student during arrival and dismissal, you must use our Kiss and Ride area.  Please do not drop students off at other places as it is not safe and can cause traffic issues.

Thank you for slowing down, staying alert, and helping us keep our Cougars and Haycock community safe!

Get2Green Opportunity

Do your part to mitigate climate change: Save trees!

Trees do an excellent job storing carbon and cooling the earth. Join in a community effort to save trees from invasive vines in the Haycock Longfellow Park on Sunday, November 8th, from 2-4 pm. We’ll be led by trained Tree Rescuers. No prior experience or great physical strength necessary. Supplies provided, but if you have garden tools and gloves, please bring them. All ages are welcome although elementary school students must be accompanied by an adult. Everyone will meet at the Temple Rodef Shalom (2100 Westmoreland Street) parking lot. Go to the back of the parking lot where the dumpsters are located. We’ll have sign-in tables there. Please sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/508044FA8AE2BA57-66560614-copy#/

Share Your Feedback on Traveling to and From School

The FCPS Office of Safety and Security and Safe Routes to School program are asking families to share their experiences traveling to and from their child’s school. The feedback will help inform the Fairfax County School Board’s annual assessment of traffic and pedestrian safety near schools.

The Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Survey asks about walking and biking routes, traffic near schools, kiss-and-ride experiences, accessibility, and other safety concerns.

Your feedback will help FCPS identify common issues. Your responses will be kept confidential and shared with school administrators and the Office of Safety and Security. The five-minute survey is open through Thursday, October 15.

Be sure to identify the school related to your feedback and include specific locations where you have observed a safety issue. If you have students at different schools in FCPS, please complete a different survey for each school.

If you have any questions about the survey, please contact SafeRoutestoSchool@fcps.edu.

Celebrating the Power of School Lunches

Multiple studies show that school lunches are important in supporting overall student health by improving students’ diets and combating food insecurity. Students who eat school lunches consume more fruit, vegetables, and fiber than their peers.

This National School Lunch Week, FCPS Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) reminds families that they are dedicated to providing delicious, healthy, sustainable, and student-focused meals. New menu items have been launched this year based on student feedback.

Want to know what’s for breakfast or lunch? View the Nutrition Services menus.

Immunization Events for FCPS Students

FCPS, in partnership with Inspire Health Alliance, will be providing school-required immunizations and optional flu shots for all FCPS students, ages 18 and under, with no out-of-pocket costs. Multiple events will take place at designated FCPS locations.

Additional dates will be made available throughout the school year. Parents or guardians may view upcoming events and schedule an appointment for their student. Participation is voluntary. Additional immunization resources are available.
