We had a beautiful fall morning where students could walk, bike and scoot to school. Some of our students met up with Fairfax County police officers who were giving out stickers. Thank you to everyone for promoting safe transport to and from school everyday. If you haven't filled out the Traffic & Pedestrian survey (see article below), please do so by next Thursday.

A Message from Ms. Consolla
I'm overflowing with pride and joy at this week's announcement from the Virginia Department of Education: According to the official Virginia School Quality Profiles, Fort Hunt achieved the highest performance rating level of "Distinguished" with a framework score of 90.74. The state system provides information about our school’s performance on academic and readiness measures. The framework places emphasis on standardized test results, alongside student growth, and readiness measures that vary by school level.
I want to be clear in saying that our students are much more than the results of standardized tests and point systems. Every day in our classrooms, our amazing educators are leading moments of joy in learning. This recognition reflects the strength of our entire school community. Our strong performance stands out and is something to celebrate.
We will continue building on this success. Our team is committed to keeping high expectations for learning, supporting each student’s unique strengths, and creating a school environment where every child feels welcomed, challenged, and cared for. We are also grateful for the support we receive from families. Your involvement makes a difference, and it plays an important role in helping our students succeed.
Being partners means sharing information. If you have not scheduled your parent-teacher conference with your child's AM teacher, please do so in the next week. I have instructed all AM teachers to meet with their students' families. They will coordinate with the PM teacher to either join in or to pass along information to share with you. Thank you in advance for arriving on time. If you need any assistance with scheduling that conference, don't hesitate to reach out to me or Dr. Triplett.
Thank you for your partnership in your child's education at Fort Hunt.

🚶♀️➡️Dismissal Reminder for Walkers
In order to establish a clear dismissal and transfer from school to home, all walkers who exit out Door 11 must proceed home. They are welcome to return to campus once they've checked in at home. If a student's parent is already on campus at the time of dismissal, they are welcome to stay.
Students who live outside of walking distance may not wait unattended on the side yard for a parent to drive up. Those students are considered car riders and should be exiting out at the Car Riders dismissal at Door 1. Thank you for supporting this by talking with your child about the expectations for a safe dismissal.

It gives the viewer a sense of belonging which can help validate their own experiences and identities. Doors represent the opportunity to enter and engage with another culture for a moment in time. We are following the FCPS Heritage Months calendar.
This month for October: LBGTQIA+ History Month & Disability Awareness Month. If you connect with these identities, please consider sharing any family photos, books and artifacts. They will be on display in our showcase.
Astrid Mendez, our new Family Liaison, will work with you to create any descriptive labels you’d like to add. She can be reached at almendez@fcps.edu
🚌Safe Routes to School Parent and Caregiver Survey
As part of the Fairfax County School Board’s Annual School-Based Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Assessment, the FCPS Office of Safety and Security and Safe Routes to School program are inviting parents and caregivers to share their experiences traveling to and from school.
The Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Survey asks about walking and biking routes, traffic near schools, kiss and ride experiences, accessibility, and other safety concerns.
Your feedback will help FCPS identify common issues. Your responses will be kept confidential and shared with school administrators and the Office of Safety and Security. The five-minute survey is open through Thursday, October 15.
Be sure to identify the school related to your feedback and include specific locations where you have observed a safety issue. If you have students at different schools in FCPS, please complete a different survey for each school.
If you have any questions about the survey, please contact SafeRoutestoSchool@fcps.edu.

⌚Late? Walk Your Child into the Building
We recognize that situations might come up that result in arriving after 8:55am. When that happens, quickly walk your child into the office. Do not drop them off at the curb. Walking them in takes a minute and ensures that there is an adult-to-adult hand-off. Thank you!

🧁Birthdays at Fort Hunt
Birthdays are a special day for children. Our PTA recognizes every child at the monthly Birthday Books & Cupcakes. Each child picks out a book to take home and a cupcake to enjoy at lunch.

Toys, Fidgets, Stuffies... Stay at Home
If your child has an accommodation for the use of a fidget in their IEP or 504 plan, we will provide a fidget for them. All toys, fidgets, stuffed animals, squishies, pop-its etc., need to stay at home even if they're small. Thank you for ensuring your student complies with this.

We are PET-Free on Our Campus
As a reminder, all FCPS campuses, including Fort Hunt, do not allow pets at any time or day of the week. This includes drop-off and afterschool pick-up. It's fine to wait up on the sidewalk on Linton Lane with your pet. This rule is in place to ensure all students feel safe and to keep our grounds clean. Thank you!
