October Principals' Message
Dear Lane Elementary Families,
Happy October! As we settle into autumn, we have so many wonderful achievements and milestones to celebrate across our school community.
September Attendance: A Strong Start!
We are thrilled to report that Lane Elementary achieved a 97% attendance rate for the month of September! Thank you so much for partnering with us to ensure your children arrive at school on time and ready to learn every single day.
"Research shows that attendance is a single best predictor of academic success — students who attend school regularly are more likely to master foundational skills, stay engaged, and succeed academically."
Your daily dedication at home makes a direct impact in the classroom, and we are grateful for your ongoing support.
Celebration of Excellence: VDOE School Performance Framework
We have extraordinary news to share from the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). With the recent release of the School Performance and Support Framework report, Lane Elementary has been named a Distinguished School — the highest performance category in the state! You can read the full report here.
This recognition reflects incredible growth over time. Over the past three years, our school community has progressed steadily:
Federally Identified——> On Track ——> Distinguished
This journey is a testament to the tireless commitment, hard work, and focus of our remarkable teachers and students. It also reflects the power of home-school partnership. Thank you for reading with your children at home, helping with studying, checking assignments, and staying engaged in their education every day. Together, we have built a culture of learning where every Lane Lion can thrive, and we look forward to continuing this momentum throughout the year!
Looking Ahead: Ending First Quarter Strong
The end of the first quarter is quickly approaching at the end of October. Here are a few practical ways to stay engaged with your student's learning:
-
Daily Engagement: Regularly check your child’s agenda (grades 3 through 6), grade-level newsletters, and homework assignments.
-
Goal Setting: When progress reports come home, take time to sit down with your child to celebrate their achievements and set specific goals for areas they want to grow in during Quarter 2.
A Huge Thank You to Our PTA & Fun Run Supporters!
Finally, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our incredible PTA and all the families who donated to our recent fall fundraiser.
We had an absolute blast running, cheering, and celebrating alongside our Lane Lions during the Fun Run! It was an energetic and joyful day that brought our entire community together while raising vital funds to support school programs, classroom resources, and student activities throughout the year. Thank you for your generosity and spirit!
Thank you for being such a supportive, active part of our school community. We are honored to serve your children and look forward to another successful month ahead.
Warmly,
Mrs. Opie and Mrs. Lopez
