Dear Cardinal Families,
A big THANK YOU to our incredible PTA for hosting such a successful Walk and Bike to School Day this week!
Our community showed up in full force and truly impressed both the Town of Vienna and Fairfax County Public Schools so much so that our students and families made it onto their official social media feeds!
We are endlessly grateful for everything the PTA does to support our students and staff year-round. A special shout-out for the delicious Auntie Anne’s pretzels and staff treats this week. They were a huge hit and so very much appreciated!
If you haven't joined this amazing group of parents yet, it's not too late. You can still sign up anytime on the PTA website to help support our school community!
Warmly,
Allison Hoak, Principal
Jon Kemmerer, Assistant Principal

🗣️K-6 Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences
Teachers in grades K-6 are scheduling fall conferences, and we’re aiming for 100% of our families to meet with their child's teacher this year. These conversations are a valuable opportunity to partner in supporting your child’s success. If you don’t yet have a conference scheduled, please reach out to your child’s teacher to find a time to meet between now and the end of November.
💻Join the Cunningham Park Elementary All Parent/Guardian Schoology Course to access Parent Resources
We are transitioning to using our Schoology Course as the central hub for all parent and guardian communications. Ms. Dean, our tech coach, shared this during our last PTA meeting. If you missed it, she shared that you can visit Schoology to access school flyers, parenting resources, literacy parent letters, Family Life Education (FLE) lessons, and Back-to-School Night presentations. We will notify you via TalkingPoints whenever new content is added. Follow the directions below to access our Parent/Guardian Schoology Site.

🍽️Celebrating the Power of School Lunches
Multiple studies show that school lunches are important in supporting overall student health by improving students’ diets and combating food insecurity. Students who eat school lunches consume more fruit, vegetables, and fiber than their peers.
This National School Lunch Week, FCPS Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) reminds families that they are dedicated to providing delicious, healthy, sustainable, and student-focused meals. New menu items have been launched this year based on student feedback.
Want to know what’s for breakfast or lunch? View the Nutrition Services menus.
✏️Nominate a Cunningham Park Employee Today
Want a quick way to recognize an employee or team at Cunningham Park Elementary School? Submit an FCPS CARES nomination! Parents, students, and community members are all invited to participate. As a bonus, one school in our region wins a staff celebration from HR each month based on submissions. Thank you for taking a moment to show our staff how much their hard work is appreciated!

FCPS Seeks Community Input on Middle School AAP Centers
FCPS is exploring a plan to offer Full-Time Advanced Academic Program (AAP) services at every middle school. Under the proposal, students who qualify could attend their neighborhood middle school and take advanced classes with other AAP students. The School Board has approved community engagement at Franklin, Hayfield, Holmes, Key, and Whitman middle schools, where programs could open for the 2027-28 school year. The proposal is still under consideration, and the School Board is expected to make a decision in December.
Each community meeting offers in-person and virtual participation. Upcoming meetings are scheduled for:
-
Holmes Middle: Thursday, October 15, at 6 p.m.
-
Whitman Middle: Thursday, October 22, at 6 p.m.
Current middle school students will remain at their assigned AAP centers through middle school. Learn more and find meeting sign-up forms on the Middle School AAP Centers page.
