Teacher Workday - No School

Welcome Mrs. Heiges!

Dear Friends,

Thank you for the warm welcome!

I am looking forward to meeting all of you throughout my time at Frost. It feels like a full circle moment. I worked at Frost very early in my career and to be honest it has always been in my heart. When the opportunity arose to fill in for Mr. Harris, I simply had to say yes! I have been retired for three years and although I have enjoyed the flexibility, I have missed the day to day excitement of FCPS. I especially miss the energy the students bring. I was extremely fortunate to be an elementary principal for 16 years and I am thrilled to be back, even if it is temporary.

Looking forward to our time together. Please stop by and say hello anytime.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

Much Peace.

-Jen Heiges

Share Your Feedback on Traveling to and From School

The FCPS Office of Safety and Security and Safe Routes to School program are asking families to share their experiences traveling to and from their child’s school. The feedback will help inform the Fairfax County School Board’s annual assessment of traffic and pedestrian safety near schools.

The Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Survey asks about walking and biking routes, traffic near schools, kiss-and-ride experiences, accessibility, and other safety concerns.

Your feedback will help FCPS identify common issues. Your responses will be kept confidential and shared with school administrators and the Office of Safety and Security. The five-minute survey is open through Thursday, October 15.

Be sure to identify the school related to your feedback and include specific locations where you have observed a safety issue. If you have students at different schools in FCPS, please complete a different survey for each school.

If you have any questions about the survey, please contact SafeRoutestoSchool@fcps.edu.

Books

UNDERSTANDING READING ASSESSMENTS AND YOUR CHILD

Strong reading skills help students learn across subjects and prepare for high school. Join this Literacy Webinar on October 20 to learn how FCPS uses VALLSS and i-Ready to understand your child’s reading progress—and how you can partner with teachers and make reading part of family life to help your child grow in confidence and thrive.

Coffee Talk Banner

Save the date for our second parent coffee!

On October 28, from 7:15-8:30 am, the Clinical Team will share a bit about how they work to support your child’s emotional and academic needs. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with Frost’s counselors, psychologists and social workers. Your partnership is essential for your student’s success.

TJHSST Freshman Application Information

Attention parents/guardians and students,

Current 8th grade students who have an aptitude and passion for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) are encouraged to apply for admission to the Class of 2031 at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST) beginning on Monday, October 5th at 4:00pm (Freshman Round Calendar) through Wednesday, October 28th at 4:00pm. The application portal, course prerequisites, GPA requirements, and deadlines can be found here: TJHSST Application Information.  Some important points about the application process are included below, but it is essential that you review the TJHSST Freshman Application Process if you wish to apply.

If you have any questions about the TJHSST admissions process, make sure you review the TJ Admissions website thoroughly and review the presentation slide deck and Admissions Assessment Information  that were shared during the admissions information session that was held at Frost MS on September 16th. If you were unable to attend the admissions information session held at Frost MS, please refer to the TJ Admissions website for the complete list of dates and locations for TJ Admissions Fall Presentation Sessions which are open to the public and being held throughout the county.

TJHSST Eligibility Requirements:

  • Students must be enrolled in the following courses in grade 8:
    • Algebra 1 Honors or higher-level math
    • Honors Science
    • One additional honors course in Social Studies or English, or student is identified as a Young Scholar
  • Minimum GPA is 3.5. This GPA is for final unweighted marks in 7th grade for math, science, English, social studies, and World Language (if for high school credit) as well as 1st quarter 8th grade for the same subjects. At the completion of 7th grade, should have an unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher to be eligible to apply. It is highly unlikely that 1st quarter 8th grade marks will elevate a GPA lower than 3.5 at the end of 7th grade to a qualifying GPA. Click here to learn about GPA calculation.
