Stronger Together
Dear Clearview Families,
October is National School Principals Month, and we couldn’t be happier to welcome Dr. Zadia Gadsden, Clearview’s new Principal! Dr. Gadsden’s first day was today, so please join us in welcoming our newest Yellowjacket.
As we welcome Dr. Gadsden, I also want to take a moment to share how grateful I am for the opportunity to have served as Clearview’s Interim Principal over the past eight weeks. It has truly been a privilege to lead this wonderful school community and to spend my days alongside your children, our dedicated staff, and our supportive families.
|
Have a wonderful week!
Students participate in classroom activities, read, learn from a visiting author, work with classmates, and spend time with friends at school.

Safe Routes to School Parent and Caregiver Survey
As part of the Fairfax County School Board’s Annual School-Based Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Assessment, the FCPS Office of Safety and Security and Safe Routes to School program are inviting parents and caregivers to share their experiences traveling to and from school.
The Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Survey asks about walking and biking routes, traffic near schools, kiss and ride experiences, accessibility, and other safety concerns.
Your feedback will help FCPS identify common issues. Your responses will be kept confidential and shared with school administrators and the Office of Safety and Security. The five-minute survey is open through Thursday, October 15.
Be sure to identify the school related to your feedback and include specific locations where you have observed a safety issue. If you have students at different schools in FCPS, please complete a different survey for each school.
If you have any questions about the survey, please contact SafeRoutestoSchool@fcps.edu.
FCPS Seeks Community Input on Middle School AAP Centers
FCPS is exploring a plan to offer Full-Time Advanced Academic Program (AAP) services at every middle school. Under the proposal, students who qualify could attend their neighborhood middle school and take advanced classes with other AAP students. The School Board has approved community engagement at Franklin, Hayfield, Holmes, Key, and Whitman middle schools, where programs could open for the 2027-28 school year. The proposal is still under consideration, and the School Board is expected to make a decision in December.
Each community meeting offers in-person and virtual participation. Upcoming meetings are scheduled for:
-
Franklin Middle: Monday, October 5, at 6 p.m.
-
Holmes Middle: Thursday, October 15, at 6 p.m.
-
Whitman Middle: Thursday, October 22, at 6 p.m.
Current middle school students will remain at their assigned AAP centers through middle school. Learn more and find meeting sign-up forms on the Middle School AAP Centers page.

- Use the results as a starting point for meaningful conversations at home.
- Support your child’s social and emotional development.
- Build confidence, resilience, and lifelong skills together.
Learn practical ways to talk with your child about their social and emotional well-being and support their continued growth at home. Events will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, at Skyview High School. View additional dates on the FCPS Family Academy webpage.
Childcare will be available. Interpretation services are available upon request. For more information, contact the Family and School Partnerships office at 703-204-4300 or FamilyEngagement@fcps.edu.
Understanding the FCPS Calendar
Help your child prepare for future success by encouraging them to develop positive attendance habits. Regular attendance supports learning and helps students stay on track for college, careers, and other opportunities after graduation.
Take a look at the FCPS calendar. Try your best to schedule any vacations or planned family events on weekends and school holidays. If the appointment needs to be during the school day, when possible, schedule it for the beginning or end of the day to minimize time missed.
If you or your family need any kind of support, please let us know. We are here for you! Visit the FCPS Attendance webpage for tips and strategies.

National Bullying Prevention Month
 |
|
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. To help develop a common understanding of Bullying, below is the FCPS definition.
Bullying in Students Rights and Responsibilities is defined as: “Any aggressive and unwanted behavior that is intended to harm, intimidate, or humiliate the victim; involves a real or perceived power imbalance between the aggressor or aggressors and victim; and is repeated over time or causes severe emotional trauma.
|
“Bullying” includes cyberbullying. “Bullying” does not include ordinary teasing, horseplay, argument, or peer conflict.”
For more information on how FCPS handles a bullying situation please visit the FCPS Bullying Prevention and Intervention webpage. Our goal is to ensure all students feel safe and welcome at school. If you have questions and/or concerns about something that is going on at school, please contact the front office so that they can support you and most importantly your child.

The 2026 Readathon Fundraiser, Clearview’s Race to Read, will officially begin on Monday, October 5th and will run through October 30th. The fall fundraiser has been a huge success in past years, and we need your help to keep students hyped up and amped to read and sign up! Last year, students logged a combined total of 67,502 minutes read, and raised $15,040 to help cover field trips for every student and other funds that we were able to put towards supplies, etc. To help our students achieve their readathon goals, we need to have them register! Forms went home to families this week and we’ll be sending messages out via email and social media info for families to direct them to the fundraising page to get started. Envelopes will go home week 2 for families that prefer paper format.
You’ll also be seeing the “Reading Raccoon” who has taken over for the Readathon Bear this year. You’ll see the Reading Raccoon on WBZZ and roaming the halls, delivering prizes to your classroom, to help get kids excited for the fundraiser. Like last year, prizes will be delivered to you in a bag with a list of which students earned which prizes for that week. We are planning for prizes to be delivered on Friday mornings.
Also like last year, we will be running weekly challenges that will award the top three classes on Fridays with donuts for the class. Here are the challenges that will be issued each week:
-
Week 1: The Classes with the Most Registered Readers for this week
-
Week 2: The Classes with the Most Shares and Reading minutes for this week
-
Week 3: The Classes with the most Students who received Donations for this week
-
Week 4: The Classes with the Most Logged Reading Minutes for this week
CLASS/GROUP PRIZES:
In addition to weekly challenges, your classes can work to earn these top prizes by the end of the fundraiser:
-
The Great Reading Pit Stop – Pajama Day! (Class with the most registered students): Every great race needs a pit stop! The class with the most reading racers will earn a well-deserved Pajama Day, transforming their classroom into the coziest pit stop around.
-
Lunch with an Assistant Principal– A Victory Lap for Reading Champions! (Class with the most logged minutes read) The class with the most Reading Champions will earn a special, once-in-a-Readathon treat, Lunch with one of our Race VIPs, Mr. Redford or Ms. Charlton!
-
Pizza Party with the Principal– A Feast for Fundraising Champions! The class that raises the most funds during the Readathon will celebrate with an exclusive Pizza Party with the Principal!
INDIVIDUAL INCENTIVES:
There are individual prizes each student can earn, starting with registering. They can all be viewed on the incentives page of our FundHub platform. Here are some big ones to highlight for you:
- The top 2 readers from each grade will receive a reading medal.
- The top reader overall will receive 3 tickets to SkyZone and 3 tickets to the movies for them and two friends to enjoy.
- he top fundraiser will receive a new Amazon Fire Tablet and protective case.
At the conclusion of the readathon, we will celebrate our students' successes and recognize Top prize winners (and of course, hold the popular pie-the-principals event) on November 6th (rain date tbd).
Looking forward to a great readathon, and on behalf of the PTA, we greatly appreciate all of your help to make this a success!
