Greetings Keene Mill Families,
It’s hard to believe it is already October! It was wonderful to see so many families and cultures represented at International Night last Friday. I really enjoyed learning about our many cultures and traditions.
Students have been working hard on beginning of the year assessments. These measures inform teachers to support your child’s learning throughout the year. Results of these assessments can be viewed on ParentVue once the county’s testing window has closed. Please keep a careful eye on communication from your child’s teacher to schedule a 1st quarter parent/teacher conference.
Partnering with you to keep our school community safe and thriving is always our top priority. Everyday attendance plays such a vital role in your child's confidence and success, and seeing our students arrive on time each morning ready to learn makes all the difference!

Advanced Academic Programs Parent Information Session
Please join Keene Mill’s Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, Mrs. Julia Brandt, to learn more about the various levels of service, understand the screening process, and gain insight into Fairfax County Public Schools’ philosophy regarding Advanced Academic Programs. The presentation will also explain how elementary students’ advanced learning needs are met through a continuum of services.

Keene Mill PTA Update
LEDO Pizza Spirit Night on Tuesday, October 6 (4:00-10:00 pm)
Visit our local Ledo Pizza (Old Keene Mill Rd) next Tuesday for their October Halloween-themed Spirit Night in support of Keene Mill. Each attendee will receive an envelope with a piece of candy. Some envelopes will contain a gold ticket for a bonus prize! Be sure to mention the fundraiser or enter “FUNDRAISER” for online orders. 15% of all proceeds will be donated to the school.

Register Today! West Springfield Pyramid Challenge
The West Springfield Pyramid Challenge is a FREE fun run that has been a part of our community for decades, and this year’s event is Saturday, Nov. 14 at Irving Middle School. Students from the seven elementary schools in the West Springfield Pyramid will run a half-mile or one-mile course, depending on their grade level. This year's event also includes a unified heat with an accessible 200-meter course for students with physical and cognitive disabilities.

 The Science of Growing Up: Supporting Emotional Development During the Teen Years
The Irving MS PTA would love to extend an invitation to 6th grade families for this session. It will provide helpful insight into the emotional development of adolescents and practical ways parents can support their children as they navigate the teen years.
