Dear Families,
What a wonderful week we had celebrated Blue Star Welcome Week! Each day we dressed up to highlight ways we can welcome all students to Poplar Tree, especially those coming from our military connected families. We celebrated favorite hobbies, activities, animals, and the fact that we are all Panthers that have Panther PRIDE!
This week we also closed out our first House Incentive! Our grade levels have been working towards an incentive by showing Panther PRIDE in the cafeteria! Congrats to all the grade levels who earned their rewards! Whether free choice seating at lunch, extra recess, or PJ day - our students have worked hard for their reward!
We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

SEL Screener: Grades 3-6 โค๏ธ
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) believes in supporting social and emotional learning (SEL) for all students. In FCPS, students use a tool called the SEL Screener to think about their own SEL skills and experiences at school. The screener is offered to all students in grades 3 through 12 in the fall and spring. It addresses skills like achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships with adults and peers, and making responsible decisions. Students also share how successful their school and community is at making them feel valued, included, and supported. Screener data is used to plan programming for the division, schools, and individual students.
Poplar Tree Students in grades 3โ6 will take the brief SEL screener with their class between October 5 and October 30. After each screening, results are available in the Documents tab of SIS ParentVUE and mailed to families without a ParentVUE account. Families who wish to opt their students out of the SEL Screener can do so via the Parent Digital Consent System OR by completing a Fairfax County Social Emotional Learning Screener Opt-Out Request Form.
For more information, please visit the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage or contact the School Counselor: Beth Mertens (eemertens@fcps.edu).

Talent Show Lead or Co-Leads Needed!๐ญ
The Talent Show is one of the most beloved community events at Poplar Tree - last year almost 100 students performed, plus teachers and staff! We need a new lead (or group of friends!) to step up in order to hold this event. This is a fun way to contribute through a short-term commitment. We have amazingly detailed notes and guidance from past years and lots of tools and resources to support you! Help us keep this tradition alive!
Interested in this or being involved in another committee?
