👣Walk to School Day
On Wed, Oct. 7, join children and adults around the world to celebrate the benefits of walking.
We are only encouraging students who live in the Sangster area (non-bus riders) to participate in this event because of the potential dangers of walking next to major roads. We are also encouraging parents to walk with their children to school on this day.
Safety Tips for Walking to school
- Walk with a buddy
- Use crosswalks
- Look left, right, left before crossing the street
- Be aware of cars pulling out of driverways

🧑🚀🦸Book Character Day!
Sangster's Annual Book Character Day is Friday, Oct. 30. Students are encouraged to bring a book that includes the character they are representing. During the school day, they may be asked to share more about the character they’ve chosen.
Guidelines for Book Character Costumes
- Characters must be age appropriate and from elementary or middle- grade level books.
- Costumes may not involve blood or other horror-type elements.
- No weapons of any kind or masks that cover the entire face.
- Costumes must allow students to take care of personal needs, sit at desks, and participate in school and classroom activities throughout the day, including appropriate shoes for PE/ recess!

🤧When to Keep My Child Home?
FCPS requires you to keep your child home when they have a temperature of 100.4 or higher. Children need to stay home until they are fever-free for 24 hours without medication.
Vomiting: If your child has vomited 2 or more times in a 24-hour period, keep them home until vomiting has stopped overnight and they can keep food/liquids down in the morning.
For more information on other symptoms and when to keep your child home from school, visit the FCPS Symptom/Illness Checker.
