Bright Minds, Brilliant Designs

Where All Students Shine!

Students participating in the sponge and tire relays during field day

Dear Kings Park Families,

It’s hard to believe we are almost halfway through the first quarter of the school year. Thanks to our incredible PE teachers, Janae Belcher and Beth Beavers, for organizing a fun fall Field Day last Friday. Students showed teamwork and collaboration throughout the games, which are skills that will help them shine all year long.

Tomorrow is our first Early Release Wednesday of the school year for students in grades K-3. Please make sure your student knows when and how they will be dismissed. The date for dismissal changes has passed as dismissal rosters have been distributed to teachers and group supervisors. Thanks for your help ensuring all students have a safe and successful dismissal.

As Blue Star Welcome Week continues, we celebrate and honor our military-connected families and we look forward to welcoming our Kindergarten families to Friday’s Morning Meeting event.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Dotty Lin, Mrs. Jenn Burke and Mrs. Anna Kaplan

Walk, Bike, Roll

Walk, Bike, & Roll to School Day - Wednesday, October 7th

Get ready for Walk, Bike, & Roll to School next Wednesday, October 7th! Walking and biking to school benefits both the students and the community in several ways. Students who walk and bike get more physical activity, have more time to socialize with their friends, and develop a sense of independence and self-reliance. The community benefits from reduced pollution and traffic congestion. We encourage participants to plan a safe route in advance. A fun way to celebrate this day is to form a “walking train” with other Kings Park friends! Meet at the bike racks (to the left of the main entrance) at 8:20am to celebrate! Kiss and Ride, in addition to bus transportation, will still be available and will follow the same route schedules.

Specialist Open Houses

All of our specialists (PE/Music, Art, and STEAM/Library/Strategies Lab) will host open house weeks throughout the school year. We kick things off in October with Music and PE!

PE and Music Open House: October 19-23

Parents/guardians are invited to join their child during designated PE and Music classes October 19-23. You’ll have the chance to experience a typical class and participate alongside your student. Specific dates and times will be shared by specialists soon. We look forward to seeing you - please remember to bring your photo ID for check-in at the front office.

SRR

Review and Sign SR&R by September 30th

The FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) booklet explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment. We encourage families to discuss these expectations with their child(ren).

Families should review the SR&R and sign the acknowledgement form by Wednesday, September 30, either by logging into SIS ParentVUE or by signing and returning the Signature Sheet.

The 2023-30 Strategic Plan — Goal 5: Leading for Tomorrow’s Innovation

FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan sets five main goals to create positive change in the division. These goals show where we should focus our attention and will help us align our efforts.

This week, we’re highlighting Goal 5, which focuses on preparing every student for life after graduation with the skills they need to thrive. See how Goal 5 is being put into practice.
