October 7 PSAT/SAT School Day Information
All high schools will administer the PSAT/NMSQT and SAT on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. Standard PSAT/NMSQT and SAT school day testing requires approximately three hours to administer.
A two-hour early release is scheduled for all high school and secondary school students on PSAT/SAT Day to provide staff development or to allow teacher-directed time.
7th & 8th Grade - Students are having an instructional day and will follow the bell schedule below.
If you have questions about the PSAT/NMSQT administration or alternative activities, please contact Kim Longworth kalongworth@fcps.edu.
Vision and Hearing Screening
Vision and hearing screening will be held on September 29th and 30th for all 7th grade students, during their health and PE class time. The purpose of screening is to identify students who need further evaluation due to difficulty seeing the screening chart or hearing the screening tones. If your child wears glasses, please be sure that contacts/glasses are at school on screening day. Parents will be notified by letter if screening results indicate that further evaluation is needed. Prompt follow-up with your health care provider is recommended as vision and hearing difficulties can interfere with learning.

FCPS Volunteer Requirements
Recent updates to our volunteer process focus on one primary goal: keeping students safe.
These updates — such as checks against the sex offender registry and, in some cases, criminal background checks — are safety measures that will help us maintain a secure and supportive learning environment for every student in our care.
We encourage all our parents and community members interested in supporting our students by volunteering at school to visit Volunteer FCPS, click “Learn More,” and then “Sign Up.” After you create a profile, you will view an orientation video and complete a volunteer application.
Volunteer FCPS ensures a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment at all of our schools. All volunteers must be registered in Volunteer FCPS. This includes individuals who volunteer to chaperone on field trips, work at book fairs, and help out regularly in classrooms, libraries, or cafeterias. Volunteers who work unsupervised with students will also be required to undergo a background check.
We understand these changes may seem disruptive, especially for long-time volunteers. Our intent is to ensure that our students feel safe and supported with each and every person they encounter at school.
As a reminder, all volunteers — and visitors to a school — are required to sign in by scanning their ID at our visitor kiosk. Visit the Volunteer FCPS Frequently Asked Questions page to learn more.

FCPS WLCBE 2026
World Languages Credit by Exam Earn world language credits for demonstrating language proficiency in a language other than English!
About the FCPS World Languages Credit by Exam (WLCBE): The exam assesses language proficiency in languages other than English.
Students who take the exam may earn up to three passing world language credits for levels one, two, and/or three for the language of the exam.
The credits may fulfill the world languages requirements for the Advanced Studies Diploma.
The FCPS WLCBE is also an approved assessment for awarding the Virginia Department of Education’s (VDOE) Seal of Biliteracy.
The exam is offered one time per school year for the languages listed on the FCPS World Languages Credit by Exam website (see below).
A student may participate in the exam two times per language, once per year, between grades 7 through 12. In other words, students have two chances per language to earn credits by taking the exam, but may only take the exam one time per year.
Registration: September 8 through October 16, 2026. Late registrations will not be accepted. See your counselor to register or for more information.
Testing Time & Location: The WLCBE will be offered at Robinson Secondary School between November 9-20, 2026. See your counselor for more information.
