A Message from Principal Crews
Dear Hornet Families,
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in making our school community such a wonderful place for our students to learn and grow. Please remember that Picture Day is on September 30th and we will celebrate our September Hornets of the Month on Friday, October 2nd. The students selected have shown our core values of RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY and SAFETY throughout the month. We are also looking forward to our upcoming Hornet Field Day, so stay tuned for more details on that exciting event!
Warm regards,
Jasibi Crews,

Hollin Meadows Family Survey
Dear Hollin Meadows Families,
Please fill out the Hollin Meadows Elementary School Family Needs Assessment & Workshop Topics Survey as soon as possible. It helps us plan family coffee workshops and support each family by identifying their needs.
👉 Please click here to complete the Hollin Meadows Elementary School Family Survey.
At Hollin Meadows Elementary School, we believe that strong family–school partnerships are essential to supporting student success. To better understand how we can support your family, we are conducting a Family Needs Assessment. This will help us identify your needs (such as food, clothing, or information) and guide us in planning helpful workshops and training for families.
The survey is available in English, Spanish, Amharic, Dari, and Pashto.
If you have questions, please reach out to Ms. Oncho, the Family Liaison.

The meeting will be on Oct. 7, 2026 from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. in Room 153. Families will learn about the referral and identification processes for Full-Time AAP services.
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is committed to challenging all students through talent development and differentiated instruction. A continuum of Advanced Academic Program (AAP) services is available to students in Grades K-12 and is designed to match services to each student’s unique academic needs.
Identification for Subject-Specific and Part-Time AAP services occurs throughout the school year. Full-Time AAP services have two identification cycles:
-
Fall identification: Students in grades 3-7 who have enrolled in FCPS since January may be referred by October 15, 2026.
-
Spring identification: Any FCPS student in Grades 2-7 may be referred by December 15, 2026.

Lunch Buddies with the FCPD on Oct. 15
During the 2026-2027 school year Fairfax County police are excited to be partnering with FCPS elementary schools located in the Mt. Vernon district on a program called Lunch Buddies. The program consists of Police officers from the Mt. Vernon Police station visiting elementary schools during lunch to spend time with the kids in a non-threatening environment. Our hope is to build relationships with the children so they can be more comfortable with the police and see us as someone here to help.
We are excited to announce that we will have our police officer Lunch Buddies join us at Hollin Meadows on October 15, 2026.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to PFC Brandie Allen at brandie.allen@fairfaxcounty.gov.

Birthdays at HMES
We love celebrating birthdays! Families are welcome to drop off one packaged store-bought item that is allergy-friendly. Please communicate with your child's teacher as early as possible if you would like to drop off a item to share. Items should be dropped off in the front office of the school.
Celebrations take place at the end of the day. While we love our families, birthday celebrations are for students only.
