The Wildcat Weekly - September 27, 2026

Centreville Students, Families, and Community,

As we continue to recognize Hispanic Heritage Month, I want to take a moment to celebrate the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of the Hispanic and Latino members of our Wildcat community. This year’s theme, “Unidos, Somos Más” (“Together, We Are More”), is especially meaningful for us at Centreville. It reminds us that the diversity of our students, families, and staff is one of our greatest strengths, but also that our success depends on how we come together as a community. Whether in the classroom, on the field, on the stage, or throughout our community, we accomplish more when we value one another’s experiences, perspectives, and contributions and work toward our shared goals.

I also want to provide an important reminder regarding our personal device expectations. We have recently seen an increase in students bringing and using unauthorized personal devices at school. As shared prior to the start of the year, students may not use personal laptops, tablets, smartwatches, smartphones, or similar devices during the school day, and all school-related digital activities should be completed on FCPS-issued devices. We ask families to please reinforce these expectations at home. Limiting personal devices helps us maintain a focused learning environment where students can be present, engaged, and connected with their teachers and peers.

Finally, one of our favorite Wildcat traditions is right around the corner! Homecoming Week begins October 5, and we are looking forward to a week filled with school spirit, connection, and celebration of the Wildcat Nation. The week will culminate with our traditional pep rally, parade, and tailgate, along with plenty of opportunities for our students, families, alumni, and community to get involved. Be sure to check out all of the Homecoming details below and make plans to join us!

As the theme of Hispanic Heritage Month reminds us, together, we are more. Thank you for continuing to partner with us and for helping make Centreville a community where every Wildcat can feel connected, supported, and proud to belong.

Go Wildcats!

Dr. Erik Healey, Principal

September 26-October 4 - Blue Start Welcome Week: Every year, approximately 600,000 military-connected families relocate, and schools are a primary way they get integrated into their new location. Most of these families move to new duty stations, while some transition out of the military and others transition in. Most of these moves take place over the summer, and Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to ensuring our military families feel welcomed and a sense of belonging to their local community. Blue Star Welcome Week is an opportunity for our community to welcome our military-connected families and show them our appreciation for their service and sacrifices. Throughout the week, FCPS will help ease their transition through events, messages, actions of welcome, and opportunities to make meaningful connections. Please help us welcome our military families during Blue Star Welcome Week, September 26 through October 4, 2026, and throughout the year! #BlueStarWelcomeWeekFCPS

September 28 - October 1 - 9th Grade Wellness Screener: On September 28 - October 1 groups of 9th grade students will watch age-appropriate video clips and participate in a guided discussion about depression, suicide, and what to do if they are concerned about a friend. We are using a program called Signs of Suicide (SOS). The program teaches students about this difficult topic and encourages them to seek help. Following the video, students will complete a brief depression screening form. This form cannot provide a diagnosis of depression but does indicate whether a young person should seek help from a mental health professional. If you do NOT wish your child to participate in this program and/or screener, please contact Kristin Girardin, Director of Student Services.  The bell schedule will be flipped on 9/30 and 10/1 to allow counselors and clinicians to meet with any students needing follow up prior to the end of the day.. The period rotation will be 7, 3, 5 & 1 and then 8, 4, 6 & 2. Academy students will follow their regular schedule and report to the library for the last block of the day.

October 2 - Choir Mic Night: CVHS Mic Night will take place in the auditorium on Friday, October 2 at 7pm! This event is put on by the Choral Department and the Choral Boosters. Students enrolled in any Performing Arts class (Choir, Band, Orchestra, Theatre, & Guitar) are eligible to audition to perform. Students choose their own song/piece and can perform solos, duets, trios, or in small groups. Come on out to enjoy a varied lineup of performances! Admission is $5. Our student performing artists truly appreciate your support!
