Fall Weekly Recaps
Golf held their senior night prior to final match of the regular season on Thursday vs Mt. Vernon. The Atoms showed some strength in the match as they ran away from the Majors with a 181-226 win! Next up is the National District Championship at Twin Lakes Monday morning.
Girls Volleyball played two more pivotal district games this week vs Mt. Vernon and TJ. Tuesday welcomed the Majors to campus and the Atoms treated them to a 3-0 dominating sweep to move to 5-1 in district play. Thursday was a short trip down Little River to TJ. Unfortunately, the Atoms were swept in three sets to finish the first half of the district rotation at 5-2. Next up is a varsity doubleheader at Park View Monday evening.
Boys Volleyball played their final two district games of the first half of the season this week. Tuesday the Atoms traveled to Mt. Vernon Tuesday to take on the Majors. The Atoms were tested throughout but were able to come home with a district win over the Majors. Thursday was a home date with TJ where the Colonials took the first two sets before finishing the match off with a 3-1 win. The Atoms travel to Park View Monday before hitting the road to Lewis Tuesday.
Field Hockey played two district rivals this week and came away with two wins by an accumulated score of 13-1. First was a home game with Justice that saw the Atoms score early and often as they cruised to an 8-0 win. Thursday was more of the same but with a few less goals as the Atoms dominated the Colonials to the tune of a 5-1 win! Next up is a trip to Edison Wednesday evening.
Football traveled into Loudoun County to take on the Park View Patriots. The Atoms took the opening and three plays later put the first points on the board. The Patriots returned the favor but in a lot more plays to make it 8-7. The Atoms scored again on their next possession to make it 14-8. The Atoms defense locked down as the Patriots only crossed the 50 yard line one more time for the rest of the game. The second half was a slow paced game due to injuries, penalties, or clock management by both teams. The Atoms had multiple chances but had drives stalled deep into Patriot territory. Ultimately, the Atoms were able to block a punt for a safety and score a late touchdown to make the final 23-8. The Atoms return home for Homecoming vs Justice, Friday evening.
Boys and Girls Cross Country had another good week of running as three Atoms runners placed in their respective meets. Dagmawi Tadesse finished 4th in the boys race while Alice Banks and Karina Simone placed 4th and 6th respectively. The Atoms compete in the Oatlands Invitational today.
