News From WSHS
Chromebook Communication
Now that we have settled into the 2026-2027 school year, we want to send a reminder that students/families are responsible for damage to the Chromebooks and their HP 45-watt chargers, whether willfully or accidentally. We have seen an increase in Chromebook damage, with the most frequent damages being Broken LCD Screens and water damage from water bottles spilling in backpacks. These repairs range from $90.00 to $315.00 depending on the necessary repair. Please partner with us and remind your students of proper care of their laptop both at home and at school.
Expectations:
- Chromebooks should be charged nightly and brought to school each day. There are no loaner Chromebooks if left at home.
- Please ensure Chromebooks are stored out of the way when charging and not propped against a wall or laying on the floor, where they can be kicked or stepped on.
- Ensure items are not left on the keyboard when closing the lid to reduce the risk of screen breakage.
- Water bottles should be stored in an exterior pocket of a backpack to reduce the risk of damaging the systemboard of the device.
- Chromebooks should not be used as a folder to hold papers, as this is known to break the hinge.
- Please refrain from eating or drinking when using the Chromebook.
-
Only the HP 45-watt charger that was given upon checkout is to be used and returned with the Chromebook. No off-brand chargers will be accepted. HP chargers are warrantied so if it stops working, we can easily supply a new charger at no cost, as long as the defective one is returned to the Tech Office.
- If the charger is lost, a new charger must be purchased through our WSHS MySchoolBucks Store. Once the purchase is complete, students may come to the Tech Office to pick up their new charger.

Attendance matters! Every school day is an opportunity to learn, grow, and connect. We encourage all West Springfield High School families to make attendance a priority by establishing consistent routines and arriving on time each day. Together, we can create a school community where every student is present, engaged, and empowered to reach their full potential. Every day counts! We are here to help and support. If you have any questions about your children's attendance, please contact Nicoleta Abott, Dean of Students: fnabott@fcps.edu

Blue Star Welcome Week
September 26 through October 4, 2026
Our community and FCPS are proud to participate in Blue Star Welcome Week, a special event dedicated to welcoming military-connected families to the area. From September 26 through October 4, 2026, various events and activities will be held throughout FCPS schools and the region to show support and appreciation for military-connected families.
Blue Star Welcome Week is an annual event hosted by Blue Star Families, a non-profit organization that empowers military-connected families and strives to help them integrate into civilian communities. This week-long celebration offers newcomers the opportunity to connect with local resources, meet other military-connected families, and engage with the community. Please visit the National Capital Region Chapter to learn more about the events Blue Star Families and their partners will be hosting.
FCPS wishes a warm welcome to our military-connected families! We are honored to have you as part of our community, and we thank you for your service.
Dear Senior Parents and Guardians,

I appreciate you taking the time to join us and look forward to supporting your students this year!
Sincerely,
