🎨 Radial Symmetry Printmaking! Our Cougars explored art from the Middle Ages and learned about symmetry through the beautiful Rose Windows of Notre-Dame. Students then created their own foam print plates and used them to make unique radial symmetry prints. Check out their amazing artwork! 🖼️✨
Dear Haycock Families,
We are almost in October, and our school year is in full swing! We had a very successful Advanced Academics Program (AAP) Information Night last week, where I met many new and returning families who wanted to learn more about our AAP program. We will host a second AAP night on October 22, which will focus specifically on the screening process. Please reach out to Siobhan O’Hair with any questions.
We have our first early release day this Wednesday. All students will be dismissed at 1:05 p.m. Please make sure you have filled out the form indicating your child’s plans for the afternoon so we can be prepared and organized.
As we move into fall, please make sure your children have coats and/or long pants on cooler days so they are comfortable when arriving in the morning and when spending time outside. The weather is still beautiful, but mornings will get colder quickly.
I hope everyone had a great Monday and is looking forward to another fun week of school!
With appreciation for your partnership,
Jeremy Ferrara, Principal jcferrara1@fcps.edu
Heather Boyd, AP HABoyd@fcps.edu
Krystal Styles, AP krstyles@fcps.edu

Capital Weather Kids Contest
As a weather enthusiast, I love Capital Weather! They are currently running a contest for kids. I wanted to share it with any families who may be interested.
Capital Weather invites kids in Kindergarten through Grade 8 to submit original artwork inspired by weather, seasons, climate, or nature. Approximately once a week for the next several months, we’ll select an entry to feature with our daily forecast on capitalweather.com, the Capital Weather app, our email newsletters, and social media.

Set Screen Time Limits and Monitor Online Activity With Lightspeed
The free Lightspeed Parent Portal makes it easy for you to see and manage how your child uses their FCPS-issued device outside of school hours. New Lightspeed Parent Portal features for this school year include:
-
Schedules: Pause or restrict internet access during specific times, such as during homework time, family dinners, weekends, or bedtime.
-
Web Rules: Block specific websites you don’t want your child accessing at home.
Be sure to check your email (subject line: “Filter Portal Weekly Report”) each Sunday for the Lightspeed Student Online Activity Report, a weekly summary of the websites your child has visited. Learn more about Lightspeed Parent Reports.

Digital Literacy Resources for Families
As part of our continued support for digital literacy, families can access lesson materials that introduce the concepts students will explore throughout the school year. These resources include student lessons and supporting materials organized by grade level. Resources will be shared on a quarterly basis through Schoology.
The All Parent/Guardian Course is available in Schoology through a parent or guardian account. Schoology and ParentVUE use the same login credentials. Families who need assistance can review How Do I Log in to and Access Schoology? or watch the brief walkthrough on the Schoology Snippets page.
Families can also learn more about FCPS guidance and practices on the Educational Technology in FCPS webpage.
