A Message from Principal Harris
Greetings Frost Middle School,
The weather over the past few days has signaled that Fall is officially here! After a sweltering summer it has refreshing to feel the crispness of the Fall air! Our Frost Falcons did a great job this week with maintaining routines and getting to class on time! Keep reminding students each week to keep up the great work! Today was National Instructional Assistant’s Day. We are so thankful for our wonderful IAs and all they do to support students withing the classroom and beyond!
Next week we start the full Frost Middle School After School Program! I hope your child has shared a bit about what they’ve learned this week during Falcon Focus about the after-school program! We look forward to seeing their smiling faces hanging out with friends and enjoying the many club offerings we have. As you may have heard me mention before, keep track of which clubs your child is staying for each day; plan, add it the calendar, and communicate so that you are aware and that your son or daughter knows that you know! Communication is key!
Please be reminded, students are not allowed to re-enter for after school programs once they’ve exited building at 2:15. Students must report to the club locations directly from their last period of the school day. In addition, students are not allowed to ride the late bus home if they have not participated in the after-school program for various reasons including safety and security concerns. Finally, use of cell phones is limited during after school as well. FCPS Student’s Rights and Responsibilities still hold during after school hours.
A heads up, students will participate in vision and hearing screening next Tuesday and Wednesday and next Friday is National Custodian Appreciation Day! Let’s celebrate our hardworking custodial staff for keeping our building clean, safe and healthy!
As always, “Work Hard. Be Nice. Widen Your Circle. We are ONEFrost!”
All the best,
Anthony
TJHSST Freshman Application Information
Attention parents/guardians and students,
Current 8th grade students who have an aptitude and passion for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) are encouraged to apply for admission to the Class of 2031 at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST) beginning on Monday, October 5th at 4:00pm (Freshman Round Calendar) through Wednesday, October 28th at 4:00pm. The application portal, course prerequisites, GPA requirements, and deadlines can be found here: TJHSST Application Information. Some important points about the application process are included below, but it is essential that you review the TJHSST Freshman Application Process if you wish to apply.
If you have any questions about the TJHSST admissions process, make sure you review the TJ Admissions website thoroughly and review the presentation slide deck and Admissions Assessment Information that were shared during the admissions information session that was held at Frost MS on September 16th. If you were unable to attend the admissions information session held at Frost MS, please refer to the TJ Admissions website for the complete list of dates and locations for TJ Admissions Fall Presentation Sessions which are open to the public and being held throughout the county.
TJHSST Eligibility Requirements:
- Students must be enrolled in the following courses in grade 8:
- Algebra 1 Honors or higher-level math
- Honors Science
- One additional honors course in Social Studies or English, or student is identified as a Young Scholar
- Minimum GPA is 3.5. This GPA is for final unweighted marks in 7th grade for math, science, English, social studies, and World Language (if for high school credit) as well as 1st quarter 8th grade for the same subjects. At the completion of 7th grade, should have an unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher to be eligible to apply. It is highly unlikely that 1st quarter 8th grade marks will elevate a GPA lower than 3.5 at the end of 7th grade to a qualifying GPA. Click here to learn about GPA calculation.
