A Note from the Principal

Dear Liberty Families,

One of the things I value most about our Liberty community is the way we make space to learn from one another. This week’s Unity Time lesson gave our students an opportunity to talk about their heritage and cultures, learn from each other, and celebrate the experiences that make our community unique. As we recognize Hispanic Heritage Month, these conversations help our students see themselves, learn about others, and strengthen their sense of belonging.

Students also spent time learning about changemakers and the ways individuals can make a difference in the world. We are proud of the thoughtful conversations taking place in our classrooms and the many ways our students contribute to our school community each day. Every small act of kindness, courage, and responsibility can have a meaningful impact.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend! The cooler temperatures have arrived, which means it may finally be time to break out those Liberty hoodies. Thank you for your continued partnership and support of our school community.

-Mrs. Bromberg

E-Bike, Bicycle, and Scooter Safety Rules

As electric bicycles, scooters, and other motorized vehicles are becoming increasingly popular, we are seeing more students use them to travel to and from school. While we support students having safe and reliable ways to get to school, we also want to make sure everyone understands our expectations for using these devices on our school grounds.

Our parking lots, sidewalks, and arrival and dismissal areas are especially busy, with students walking, buses loading and unloading, and vehicles entering and leaving campus. Riding an e-bike, bicycle, or scooter through these areas at an unsafe speed or in a way that puts others at risk can create serious safety concerns for everyone.

To help keep everyone safe, we ask students to:

  • Walk e-bikes, bicycles, and scooters once they arrive on school grounds, including on sidewalks and in the front parking lot.
  • Wear a properly fitted helmet and other appropriate safety equipment when using an e-bike, bicycle, or scooter.
  • Follow traffic signs, signals, and rules of the road when traveling to and from school.
  • Stay alert, watch for pedestrians and vehicles, and put phones and other distractions away while riding.
  • Secure e-bikes, bicycles, and scooters in the designated area during the school day.

Please also talk with your student about operating these devices responsibly. Unsafe or reckless behavior on school grounds or in the community may result in school-based consequences when it creates a safety concern or violates expectations in the FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities.

The Fairfax County Police Department has additional information for families about e-bike and recreational device safety and back-to-school bicycle and scooter safety. We encourage families whose students use these devices to review these resources together.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep Liberty a safe environment for all of our Lions.

Kiss and Ride Safety Reminders

Student safety in our parking lot is our top priority. Please do not park in the lot and allow your student to walk through traffic. Walking between moving vehicles creates a serious safety risk.

All families dropping off or picking up students by car must use the designated Kiss and Ride lane and follow staff instructions.

Please follow all staff signals to keep traffic moving safely.

Bus Pass Policy for Riding Home with Friends

If your student plans to ride home on a different bus with a classmate, the school must receive written permission from both families before issuing a bus pass. Both students must show their passes to the driver before boarding.

Submit a handwritten note with your student or email libertymiddle.attendance@fcps.edu.
