Spread your wings and fly! 🦋✨
Our 2nd graders had the most magical hands-on science experience studying the monarch butterfly life cycle! After watching their caterpillars transform, students gently held their new butterfly friends on their shoulders, hands, and fingers before releasing them out into the wild to begin their big journey. Watching science come to life right in their hands is a moment these young scientists will never forget! 🌿🧡
Representing our favorite teams and bringing maximum spirit! ⚽️🏈🏀⚾️
Our very first SCA Spirit Day of the year was a huge win as students and staff suited up in their favorite sports jerseys! From football and soccer to basketball and baseball, our hallways were bursting with team pride, bright colors, and friendly rivalries. No matter which team we root for on the weekends, we're all on Team Roadrunner during the week! 🏆❤️

Roadrunner Roundup
Dear Little Run Families,
What a wonderfully busy and exciting week we’ve had here at Little Run! As we enter fall and experience this crisp, chilly weather, please remember to label all of your children's jackets, coats, and sweaters. Having names clearly written on outer layers helps us ensure lost items are easily identified and returned to their rightful owners!
Looking ahead, next week is packed with important events. We hope to see you at our Family Parent Coffee, and Back to School Night! In addition, make sure to get those smiles ready for Picture Day!
As a reminder, our first 3-Hour Early Release is this Wednesday, September 30th. Confirmation of dismissal plans were sent out today. Please review those details carefully. If you need to make any changes to your child's dismissal plan, please communicate them to the front office no later than Monday at 3:30 PM so we can ensure a safe and smooth dismissal process for all students.
Finally, a quick reminder for our pet owners: Fairfax County Public Schools policy strictly prohibits dogs and other pets on school property at all times. This includes our playgrounds, athletic fields, sidewalks, and entryways. We have recently found dog waste on our playground and walkways, which creates a health and safety issue for our students. If you bring your dog along during pick-up or drop-off, please keep them on the surrounding public neighborhood sidewalks and always clean up after them. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our campus clean, safe, and welcoming for all of our kids!
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We hope you and your family have a wonderful, cozy weekend!
Warm regards,
Christie Yarn, Principal Alison Butler, Assistant Principal

Advanced Academics Programs
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is committed to challenging all students through talent development and differentiated instruction. A continuum of Advanced Academic Program (AAP) services is available to students in Grades K-12 and is designed to match services to each student’s unique academic needs.
Identification for Subject-Specific and Part-Time AAP services occurs throughout the school year. Full-Time AAP services have two identification cycles:
-
Fall identification: Students in grades 3-7 who have enrolled in FCPS since January may be referred by October 15, 2026.
-
Spring identification: Any FCPS student in Grades 2-7 may be referred by December 15, 2026.
FCPS uses ability testing as one consideration in the holistic identification process for AAP services.
- All students in Grade 2 take the Naglieri General Ability Tests (NGAT).
- Students in Grades 3-6 who do not have a multi-domain ability test score take the NGAT.
- Students in Grades 3-6 may retake an ability test one time. Families may request the ability test retake by contacting Jackie Oehrlein, School Testing Coordinator, at jioehrlein@fcps.edu by October 1.
Families are invited to attend an AAP information meetings, led by our Advanced Academic Resource Teacher (AART):
-
AAP Continuum of Services: October 15 at 5:30 PM in the Library. Families will learn about the continuum of advanced academic services available to FCPS students
