Fairfax Academy,
What a whirlwind the first month of school has been. I wanted to thank our entire community (teachers, students, staff and parents) for patience with our power outage on September 11. Our Academy students were flexible and resilient in a very chaotic moment.
Now that we have a month of school under our belts, we hope our students have settled in and are enjoying their classes. We can’t wait to see the projects and performances that students are working on come to life. We held the second part of our Kickoff event last week and hope students feel more connected with faces that are here to help them in the building. Our two biggest reminders for our commuter students is to continue to wear Academy lanyards with student ID while entering and exiting campus and to have all technology off and away before entering the building and while exiting.
We know there have been a few glitches with shuttles. A reminder that if a student has any concerns about a shuttle throughout the year, please don’t hesitate to contact the Academy office and let us know. For students who miss their shuttle at their base school, please connect with your base school main office to see if they can call to get another bus sent over for you. The same is true at Fairfax Academy - our main office is happy to assist you if you miss your bus. Students should be picking a consistent mode of transportation to the Academy.
If you’re around Thursday, we encourage you to come out for our first performance of the year featuring our MTAS seniors.
Happy Fall!
Mrs. Cook

Is your student fluent in a language other than English? If so, they may be able to earn up to three high school credits toward graduation by taking the World Language Credit Exam. This exam is a great opportunity for students to demonstrate their language proficiency and receive official recognition for their skills. By passing the exam, your student can:
- Earn up to three high school World Language credits.
- Meet the language requirement for the Advanced Studies Diploma.
- Qualify for the Virginia Seal of Biliteracy, a special recognition on their diploma.
Enrollment is limited to one assessment per language each academic year, with a lifetime maximum of two attempts per language during the secondary school years.
The test will take place at Fairfax High School during the school day on November 13, 2026.
Registration for the World Language Credit Exam is open.
To register, students must first fill out the online registration form by clicking this link WORLD LANGUAGE REGISTRATION FORM. Once the form is complete, they will receive a confirmation message with a link to the official registration paperwork. Parents or guardians are required to sign the paperwork before the student returns it to their school counselor. The deadline to submit the form is October 8, 2026.
If needed, paper copies can be picked up in the Student Services office (L107).
Paper form deadline is October 16, 2025.
Important: This exam is not for students who have already earned three high school credits in the language they wish to test.
Don't miss out on this opportunity for your student to earn credit and be recognized for their skills!
