During Start with Hello Week Week: Who cares for you?
At Dranesville Elementary School, we believe that every child should have a person or program that they look forward to as part of their school experience. During Start with Hello Week, we provide each student with a heart and ask them to name a trusted adult at school. If we find that a student is unable to name a trusted adult, we provide the supportive connection with a mentor through MentorWorks. 20 Days of Attending, Connecting, and Learning

Today we celebrated our 20th day of school. We also celebrated third, fourth, and fifth grades for perfect attendance. Thank you, families, for your partnership in prioritizing daily school attendance for your child.
As of today, September 22nd, 91.4% of our students n Kindergarten through Sixth Grade have been attending school regularly. Our chronic absentee rate is currently 8.6%. Our chronic absentee rate on this day last year was 15.2%. We are indeed, achieving excellence together. Thank you!

Dranesville Celebrates 9 25 Day

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library has inspired and supported our youngest readers at Dranesville. On Friday, September 25th, we are honoring Dolly Parton with our very own 9 to 5 day. We invite all our Dragons to come to school bedazzled like Dolly. Cowboy hats and boots are encouraged.
If your child has PE on Friday, remind them to bring their sneakers.

Lexia Core5 Literacy
We are excited to use Lexia Core5 Literacy in Grades 1- 5 and PowerUp Literacy in Grade 6! As part of FCPS’s structured literacy instruction, Lexia provides personalized learning tailored to your child's needs. Students in grades 1-6 will complete an auto placement during the week of September 28th. Auto Placement is a tool designed to place each student in the appropriate Core5 level and personalize their learning journey based on their current performance.
Students are assigned specific weekly targets, which they will complete entirely during school time within our daily language arts block. Keeping Lexia at school ensures our teachers can actively monitor real-time data and give your child immediate, hands-on support.
Since students finish their usage at school, they do not need to log in at home.

Blue Star Welcome Week

America’s military families live a transient lifestyle, moving into a new community every two to three years. Military families are a valued part of our school community.
Join us in celebrating #BlueStarWelcomeWeekFCPS from September 26-October 4 to create a greater sense of belonging for military and Veteran families in our school community.

Join us on Wednesday, October 14th from 6:00 to 7:30 PM to celebrate the rich culture of our community. We invite your family to bring a favorite family dish to share for this community potluck. This is a beloved evening celebrating our Dranesville community and our students. Our youngest Dragons are preparing a special performance for you. |
Twice Exceptional Students
Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to challenging all students through talent development and differentiated instruction. Twice-Exceptional (2e) learners are students who are both gifted and have learning challenges or disabilities.
Families can learn more about 2e learners, how to support them, and how to partner with schools on the 2e webpage, which also includes a link to the Special Education Handbook.
New information, including printable flyers, has been added under the heading Supporting 2e Learners in FCPS.
