Principal's Message

Dear FEES Families,

We’re excited for a wonderful evening of learning, partnership, and connection at Forest Edge Elementary! We hope you’ll join us tonight for two important events designed to support our students and strengthen our school community.

📚 Advanced Academics Information Session | 5:00 PM

Are you interested in learning more about Advanced Academic Services at Forest Edge? Join us for an informational session where we’ll explore the different levels of service, what advanced academics looks like at FEES, and how we support students in developing their strengths, talents, and academic potential. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the program and ask questions.

🤝 First PTA Meeting of the School Year | 6:00 PM

We’re also excited to welcome families to our first PTA meeting of the school year! Our PTA plays an important role in supporting student experiences, building community, and partnering with our school to make a positive impact. Whether you’re a returning member or considering getting involved for the first time, we would love to see you there.

☕ First Principal Parent Coffee (PreK, K, 1) | September 29, 8:00–8:30 AM

As we continue working to make FEES a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for every student and family, I’m excited to invite you to our first Principal Parent Coffee of the school year!

To help ensure our time together is meaningful and focused on the topics that are most important to you, please take a moment to complete our Principal Parent Coffee Google Form . Your feedback will help us shape the agenda and prioritize the questions and conversations that are most relevant to our FEES families.

Thank you for being an important part of the Forest Edge community. We hope to see you tonight and next week at our Principal Parent Coffee!

Fall Picture Day - October 8th

Link for Picture Day Purchase

Order Code 0037070IN

What to expect on picture day

  1. When an order is placed online, the parent/guardian will receive a camera pass via email. This can either be printed or texted to the student and brought to picture day. The photographer will photograph the printed camera pass along with the student.
  2. If a student is not able to print their camera pass, that is not a problem. We will match up the student to their order manually in the production process.
  3. A parent may order from the flyer up until 24 hours after picture day. After 24 hours, the online ordering access may close. This will allow our imaging team to "Pull" all orders submitted and match them with the students photographed.
  4. When pictures are returned to school, all students that purchased pictures will receive their prepaid package. Any student that was photographed but did not order a package, will receive a "Proof" (PX) of their picture that was taken on picture day.

Early Release Wednesdays

Dear Parents/Guardians, We have 4 Early Release Wednesdays this year, when students may either be dismissed at 12:35 PM or remain at school until the regular 3:35 PM dismissal. To help us plan appropriately and keep these days running smoothly, we ask that you select one dismissal option that will remain the same for all four Early Release Wednesdays. September 30, 2026 November 18, 2026 January 13, 2027 April 7, 2027 If your family is able to accommodate the 12:35 PM dismissal, we strongly encourage you to select this option. Early dismissal helps us maximize the purpose of these afternoons while still ensuring supervision is available for students whose families need the regular 3:35 PM dismissal.

Review and Sign the SR&R by September 30

The FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) booklet explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment. This year’s SR&R includes new Universal Grade Matrices, which are at-a-glance charts that make it easier for families to see behavior expectations and school responses for grades K-3, 4-8, and 9-12.

Families, please review the SR&R and discuss these expectations with your child. Be sure to sign the SR&R acknowledgement form by Wednesday, September 30, either by logging into SIS ParentVUE or signing and returning the Signature Sheet to your child’s school.

Learn more by watching a short video about the SR&R (available in English and Spanish) or visiting the SR&R webpage.

Cellphones and Personal Devices

Students may only use a personal device if it is required as part of a necessary accommodation in the students’ Individualized Education Program (IEP) or Section 504 Plan. A principal or the principal’s designee may approve a limited, course-specific exception for students enrolled in a specialized class when the curriculum requires a technology tool or software that isn’t available on a standard FCPS-issued device. Learn more about the student device requirement.

Remember to Complete Permission Forms for School Resources

Families can now easily grant consent for their children to access a variety of school resources through the Parent Digital Consent system. This online tool can be accessed using your SIS ParentVUE account login. Parents can easily opt their child in or out of a variety of resources, including online educational tools, school counseling services, and more.

Visit the Parent Digital Consent webpage to access the system. Watch this video to see how to use the tool.

Opt In or Out to Student Devices Being Sent Home for Grades 1-6

New this year, families can opt out of having student laptops sent home with their student.

  • If you do not want your student to bring their FCPS-issued device home, please toggle the Opt Out button to a check mark and confirm by pressing Save Selection.
  • If you would like your student to bring their FCPS device home, no toggle action is needed. Confirm by pressing Save Selection.

Students whose families opt out will continue to have access to an FCPS-issued device during the school day. Please reach out to your student’s teacher to understand expectations for homework and any learning activities that may require access to technology outside of the school day.

SEL Screener Parent/Guardian Notification

The Fall Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener will be administered to students in grades 3 through 12 in October. Students use the SEL Screener twice a year to share their perspectives on how well their school and community help them develop skills they need to succeed. The screener works by asking questions or presenting statements that students can think about and respond to. This gives students a way to share how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.

After each screening, results are available in the Documents tab of SIS ParentVUE and mailed to families without a ParentVUE account. For more information, including SEL Screener questions and opt-out information, please visit the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage.
