 Centreville Students, Families, and Community,
I would like to begin by recognizing members of our Wildcat community who are observing Yom Kippur. Known as the Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the Jewish year and is a time for reflection, repentance, prayer, and seeking forgiveness. To all who are observing, G’mar chatimah tovah, may you be sealed for a good year, and may you have a meaningful and reflective Yom Kippur.
Thank you to all of the students, families, staff, and community members who came out Friday night for our first home football game of the season! There is something special about seeing so many Wildcats come together to support one another. From our football team and cheer squad to our dance team, marching band, and 12th Man, I am always proud of the energy, enthusiasm, and school spirit our students bring to these events. More importantly, I am proud of the way our students show up for each other. That sense of connection and belonging is at the heart of the positive and inclusive culture we continue to build at Centreville High School.
We are now four weeks into the school year, and hopefully our students have settled into strong routines. One area where we continue to see an opportunity for growth, and where we need the partnership of our families, is regular and timely attendance. In particular, we are seeing our greatest challenge at the beginning of the school day. Being present and on time ensures students do not miss valuable instruction, opportunities to connect with their teachers and classmates, or the routines that help set them up for success throughout the day.
As a reminder, missing more than two days of school per month, regardless of the reason, can place a student on track to be considered chronically absent. I ask our families to continue reinforcing the importance of arriving at school and class on time each day. Every day, and every minute of instruction matters.
Let’s continue to show up for our learning, show up for one another, and work together to make this another outstanding year for the Wildcat Nation.

September 26 - Classroom on the Mall Fall Fashion Show: This Saturday, the Classroom on the Mall will host their Fall Fashion Show at Macy’s (with furniture) at the Fair Oaks Mall at 4:00PM. Through this program, students get hands-on learning experiences as showcased in this completely student organized fashion show. Check out the article highlighting the incredible work of these students. Come out and join us on Saturday to catch the fall fashions and support our students!
September 26 - Orchestra Fall Festival: Orchestra students will take part in the first annual Orchestra Fall Festival, Best Event of All Time (OFF BEAT) at CVHS on Saturday, September 26 from 3-7 PM. After being treated to a free concert from Matt and Michelle Richardson from 9th Street Chamber Music, students will spend the afternoon competing in teams at music trivia with “dirty” sodas, try out Mozart vs. Beethoven wig snatching, hang out with alpacas while enjoying ice cream and music, and do some geo-catching to get to know the music wing better. The entire event is being sponsored by the String Orchestra Parent Association (SOPA). You are welcome to join us for the concert portion from 3:15-4:00 PM in the auditorium!
September 28 - October 1 - 9th Grade Wellness Screener: On September 28 - October 1 groups of 9th grade students will watch age-appropriate video clips and participate in a guided discussion about depression, suicide, and what to do if they are concerned about a friend. We are using a program called Signs of Suicide (SOS). The program teaches students about this difficult topic and encourages them to seek help. Following the video, students will complete a brief depression screening form. This form cannot provide a diagnosis of depression but does indicate whether a young person should seek help from a mental health professional. If you do NOT wish your child to participate in this program and/or screener, please contact Kristin Girardin, Director of Student Services. The bell schedule will be flipped on 9/30 and 10/1 to allow counselors and clinicians to meet with any students needing follow up prior to the end of the day.. The period rotation will be 7, 3, 5 & 1 and then 8, 4, 6 & 2. Academy students will follow their regular schedule and report to the library for the last block of the day.
October 2 - Choir Mic Night: CVHS Mic Night will take place in the auditorium on Friday, October 2 at 7pm! This event is put on by the Choral Department and the Choral Boosters. Students enrolled in any Performing Arts class (Choir, Band, Orchestra, Theatre, & Guitar) are eligible to audition to perform. Students choose their own song/piece and can perform solos, duets, trios, or in small groups. Come on out to enjoy a varied lineup of performances! Admission is $5. Our student performing artists truly appreciate your support!
October 5-9 - Homecoming Week: We are excited to celebrate the fall tradition of Homecoming Week from October 5-9. Our Student Government Association (SGA) is working hard to plan a fun-filled week for students, staff, and the community. Below is a summary of the events for the week:

Power Puff Football Game: The heated competition of our Power Puff Football game will take place on Tuesday, October 6 at 7:00PM in the stadium. Come support our juniors versus our seniors in their annual flag football game.

Homecoming Pep Rally: We will conclude Homecoming Week with a Pep Rally on Friday, October 9. We will be modifying our bell schedule to move the Pep Rally to the end of the day. Our schedule will have shortened periods for 2, 4, & 8 all before lunch. Period 6 will be at normal time (11:22AM-1:22PM) and we will dismiss students to the pep rally from 6th period.

Homecoming Parade: Our Homecoming Parade will be departing from Centreville High School at 5:00PM. If you are part of a club, sport, or activity and are interested in participating in the parade this year, we would love your presence. Students can use this form to sign up. Participating students will begin lining up at 4:15PM in the Faculty Parking Lot in the front of the school.

Homecoming Tailgate: After the parade, join us for the Homecoming Tailgate beginning at 5:30PM before the game. There will be food trucks, games, music, and lots of fun to be had for Wildcats young and old! Student Clubs can sign up to have a table here.

Homecoming Dance: Students join us for a Trip to Ibiza at our Homecoming Dance on Saturday, October 10 from 7:00-10:00PM. We will have a sensory friendly dance hour from 7:00-8:00PM, then will transition to lights down and DJ at 8:00PM. Tickets are $25 and on sale now on MySchoolBucks or during lunch from September 28 - October 9. Any non-Centreville High School students require a guest form which is available in the main office or room 116.
October 7 - PSAT/SAT School Day: On October 7, our 10th and 11th grade students will take the PSAT. Additionally, we will be administering the SAT for any 12th grade students who signed up for this optional test date. Our 9th grade students and any seniors who did not register should not attend school on this day. We will operate on an early release schedule, so all students will be dismissed at 12:55PM, unless they qualify for extended time on these tests.
Centreville Staff Supports the AJ Foundation 5K: Thank you to the Centreville High School students, staff, and community members who participated in the 18th Annual Asha-Jyothi Foundation 5K Run/Walk on Sunday! We were proud to have more than 25 registrations in our first year participating as a school. This event brought together members of our school and community for a healthy and meaningful cause. We are grateful to the AJ Foundation for hosting this wonderful event and for its continued support of Centreville High School. We look forward to growing our participation and expanding our impact each year moving forward!

SAT School Day and PSAT/NMSQT Testing Day: SAT School Day and PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) exams will be held at each high school on Wednesday, October 7, at no cost to families. The digital SAT School Day exam is offered to 12th grade students, and the digital PSAT/NMSQT exam is provided to 10th and 11th grade students.

Unscheduled Day for 9th Grade Students: Because of the testing, most 9th grade students will not have school on October 7. Students are encouraged to complete any missing work or assignments that need to be completed prior to the end of the first quarter. Ninth grade students with disabilities who receive low incidence special education services will still receive in-person instruction with a two-hour early release on October 7. College Fair and Postsecondary Virtual Night: Prepare for your child’s future at College Fair and Postsecondary Virtual Night. The annual FCPS College Fair will be held Sunday, October 18, from 4 to 6 p.m., at the George Mason University Eagle Bank Arena. Approximately 200 colleges and universities will be represented, including two- and four-year schools and U.S. Service Academies. The virtual postsecondary night event will be held on Monday, October 19, from 5 to 8 p.m. Both events will help students prepare for the next chapter of their educational journey. Virtual Mental Health Services: Since 2023, FCPS has partnered with Hazel Health to offer virtual mental health services to FCPS high school students. Parents are encouraged to contact Hazel Health directly if they are seeking mental health support for their child, have noticed changes in their child’s mood or behavior, or are having difficulty connecting with a therapist in the community. To make it easier for families to access services, FCPS has partnered with Hazel Health to streamline the referral process. Parents can visit the Hazel Health in FCPS website to enroll their child in services or visit the FCPS Teletherapy webpage for more information.
Hay Ahora Servicios Virtuales de Salud: Desde el año 2023, FCPS se ha asociado con la empresa Hazel Health para ofrecer servicios virtuales de salud mental a estudiantes de secundaria. Save the Date: Community Conversations with Superintendent Reid: Your voice matters, and Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid wants to hear from you! At FCPS, parents are partners, working with us to set our students up for long-term success at school and in life. A series of Community Conversations will be held across the school division. You are invited to share your thoughts with Dr. Reid and ask her questions. Events are planned for the following dates at 6:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted):

Not Feeling Well? When Your Child Can Come to School: School is better when your child is here! But we do understand that some days, they may feel unwell. Learn more about which symptoms are ok at school (like sneezing or sniffles), and when your child should stay home (if they have a fever, diarrhea, or vomiting, for example). If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify our school so that assistance can be provided if needed. Keep an open line of communication with our public health nurse. Call us as soon as you know your child will be absent and, if possible, let us know how long you think they will be out. Immunization Events for FCPS Students: FCPS, in partnership with Inspire Health Alliance, will be providing school-required immunizations and optional flu shots for all FCPS students, ages 18 and under, with no out-of-pocket costs. Multiple events will take place at designated FCPS locations. Additional dates will be made available throughout the school year. Parents or guardians may view upcoming events and schedule an appointment for their student. Participation is voluntary. Additional immunization resources are also available.
