A Note from the Principal
Happy Friday, Daniels Run Families!
This week, several members of our staff had the opportunity to meet with representatives from the City of Fairfax and the renovation architects to provide input on our upcoming school renovation. It has been exciting to see the process in action and to help shape the future of Daniels Run Elementary School.
A second input meeting for families and community members was held Wednesday evening. These meetings will take place periodically throughout the design and construction process. Whenever there is a staff input meeting, there will also be an opportunity for families and community members to participate. I encourage you to attend one of these meetings in the future. Your perspectives and ideas are important as we work together to create a new school design that reflects the needs, strengths, and spirit of our Daniels Run community.
Today was the Fairfax High School Homecoming Parade. It is always wonderful to see our current and former students participating in this special community event. The parade is a great reminder of the strong connections and proud traditions that make our Fairfax High School pyramid so special.

Street, Bike, and Scooter Safety Reminders
As our students commute to and from school each day, keeping them safe is our top priority. We ask parents and guardians to help reinforce essential traffic and pedestrian safety habits with their students:
- Crosswalk Safety: Always use designated crosswalks to cross the street. Look left, right, and left again before stepping into the road, and wait until traffic comes to a complete stop before crossing.
- Helmet Habits: Helmets are mandatory for students riding bikes, scooters, or skateboards. Make sure your child’s helmet fits properly—snug on the head and strapped securely under the chin.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep our school community safe!

Generation Supply
Generation Supply is a student-led initiative founded by Fairfax High School students with the objective of ensuring no student falls behind due to a lack of school supplies. The organization collects and redistributes essential items to over 1,400 students from low-income families attending high-need Title 1 schools in FCPS. Daniels Run is proud to support their mission from September 21 to October 16 by collecting donations in the box located at our main entrance office. We are accepting 1.5–2 inch binders, composition notebooks, #2 pencils, colored pencils, crayons, scissors, glue sticks, sticky notes, pencil pouches, dry erase markers, and any extra school supplies you may have. Every pencil counts and every notebook matters—together, we can ensure every child has the tools they need to achieve academic excellence!

Advanced Academic Programs (AAP)
Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to challenging all students through talent development and differentiated instruction. A continuum of Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) services is available to students in Grades K to 12 and is designed to match services to each student’s unique academic needs.
Identification for Subject-Specific and Part-Time AAP services occurs throughout the school year. Full-Time AAP services have two identification cycles:
-
Fall identification: Students in grades 3 to 7 who have enrolled in FCPS since January may be referred by October 15.
-
Spring identification: Any FCPS student in Grades 2 to 7 may be referred by December 15.
FCPS uses ability testing as one consideration in the holistic identification process for AAP services:
- All students in Grade 2 take the Naglieri General Ability Test (NGAT).
- Students in Grades 3 to 6 who do not have a multi-domain ability test score take the NGAT.
- Students in Grades 3 to 6 may retake an ability test one time. Families may request the ability test retake by contacting Ms.Gaby Auza, school testing coordinator, at GMAuza1@fcps.edu by September 30.
Families are invited to attend two AAP information meetings led by Ms. Danni James, our Advanced Academic Resource Teacher (AART):
For more information, please contact Ms. Danni James, AART, at DFJamesfcps.edu or visit the FCPS Advanced Academic Programs webpage.
